CPF Sold - Under New Management

https://www.candlepowerforums.com/threads/changes.477215/

Many members of BLF are former CPF refugees, including myself. I hope the change are positive. I may consider re-joining, after monitoring for a while.

still with the same dumb moderators :zipper_mouth_face:

why would it change? except the owner and new look, same members, same mods.

I wonder how much cash she got for CPF :money_mouth_face:

I never got around to playing over there and it sounds like that was a good thing.
Sure like it here.

She?

Yes, Kelly Dreller, who went by the nick-name "Greta" on the forum.

Iā€™ve loved the place since ā€™12, but itā€™s been dying on the vine since the fall of 2017. Iā€™ve really never had a problem there, but oh wellā€¦

This place has benefited, but that place was great, although things have changed.

Time will tell.

i think she sold it in time while it worth something. it seems it is heading to the same place AOL. and myspace went. unless new owner does something radical, like getting rid of some mods who drive members away, thou it maybe too late, the forum is permanently contaminated by those few,

I hate to be a dickā€¦but I donā€™t care about cpf.

Double tap.

Chris

I had found it hard to be a member there, they have so many rules that just getting approved to post was like applying for a new job and hoping you met the requirements and didnā€™t get booted for some arbitrary reason.
The mods would boot you for posts that didnā€™t meet their high standards for quality.

BLF is much more welcoming, i can ask questions with no sword of Damocles hovering over my head.

I donā€™t think so.

CPF was beginning to die back in October of 2017, right after Hurricane Irma.

You could see the ā€˜review forumā€™ tank, you could see the ā€˜recommend me a lightā€™ forum tank and in the past year, ā€˜electronics/batteriesā€™ has tanked.

Itā€™s completely obvious when it happened, if one has paid attention.

Nothing lasts forever.

Chris

I hope CPF improves, for the sake of the flashlight hobby as a whole, but I rarely look at CPF anymore.

Unless youā€™re a total dickhead, I donā€™t believe your point.

Iā€™m one of the most contentious posters and I never had a problem there, until I got into something about X, where the other guy was reprimanded.

In 9 years, I was never warned personally and I never had an outright post deleted.

I did use a curse word, once and it was deleted, but that was it.

Iā€™m all over the net and most times, the problem is with the poster, IME.

And Iā€™ve been a Mod over at AudioAsylum for 21 years and that place has more contentious pricks than DemocratUnderground, lol.

Chris

When i joined they had to preapprove posts, i got through that then i got hammered for low quality posts. I think i asked a few questions in those posts so i guess the low quality was that i didnā€™t add to the community but was taking from it.

I stopped bothering, if CPF posts come up in google search results thats great and i have enjoyed reading some of the technical reviews and used that information in this hobby but i never again tried to register for an account.

I wish them well.

Wow. That's like the end of an era or something. I rarely browse there anymore but they were instrumental in kicking off my interest in lights, long long time ago. Honestly I was much happier and more jazzed about lights when BLF started up and I found it I guess a year or so afterwards. Looks like CPF is still pretty low volume on threads and comments but the new look is a bit nicer. I never thought about selling a forum/site. I'm sure after almost two decades she's ready for a break!

There are a few people who are active on both. Each one has its positive attributes. How many different types and styles of everything are there? I am glad that I only have to surf two English language flashlight forums, instead eight. Instead of being born with two BLF genes, or two CPF genes, I was born with one BLF gene, and one CPF gene.

Yeah, I still have a CPF account, but I only check out CPF when an interesting Google search result pops up.

Iā€™m more curious as to what loss Greta took on the sale.

4 years ago, when a lot of software problems were plaguing them, but they were still pretty vibrant, she might have banked some coin, but not right now, IMO.

Toykeeper was tracking traffic as of a year ago and they were dropping quite a bit, so Iā€™m sure that it was a ā€˜fire sale,ā€™ of sorts?
