How do you pronounce Knipex?

I pronounce it Irwin because I find the quality close enough and the price much better. Just, I own a couple Knipex pliers. Bought my Dad a nice set of 3.

I say it like knife…

Nigh-pecks

Nip-Ex, and I’m from the USA. I’ve honestly never heard it pronounced any other way.

I think I’m in love with the pliers wrench XS! Have some of the bigger variants and they are amazing. Most Knipex products are worth their price. If you use them within their specs they will hold forever.

They are a bit overrated.
I mean, the tools are good, but there’s really not much difference compared to cheap tools as the online propaganda tries to assert.
If you abuse them, they will fail too.
I like their pliers wrench, it’s one of the most useful tools and you cannot find it at other brands because Knipex holds the patent.
I slightly bent mine when hammering it to loose a nut :frowning:

KnipFire.

Great. Inevitably, some Chinese AI, in like ten years, will find that on BLF and engrave it.

KnipFeuer!

KnipTac.

With forged emitters.

DU!! DU HAST!!!!! Please do not even get me started on how Americans totally mispronounced Ahh Dee Dahs. (Adidas). Fortunately, they are able to pronounce (or close enough) the most important names well. “Sig Sauer”. and “HK” (Heckler Koch).

That’s how I say it, partly just to be annoying(!), but partly because it’s correct (from Adi Dassler).

But “Knipex” definitely with the hard ‘K’, as in “knödel”.

Named my best dog Sig

Likely the best dog ever too. Right?

She was the best behaved dog I have had. A pistol, you might say.

MEIN land!
MEIN land!
Du est here in MEIN land!

I pronounce it Ni-pex. If that’s good enough for Abom and Uncle Bumblef$%^, that’s good enough for me.

In Swedish, knipa means to pinch and the k is hard - keh-nipa so this tool would be keh-nipex

Hard K

Very good tools

I have a few Knipex pliers now and a set of NWS pliers, also a set of the wooden Filo screwdrivers, a few different German tools now. The Knipex pliers are good seeing as i got the cheap enough i can’t complain, i wouldn’t rate them better than the NWS pliers, they are levels above cheap pliers. I stumbled upon a Japanese brand Tsunoda they are impressive. Ive cut stuff with them i shouldn’t even try to lol.

I must say i am impressed with Channellock multi-grips compared to normal cheap multi grips the Channellocks are amazing.

Tsunoda has some very good stuff, and some duds as well. Not all from Japan, either, because like most they have broadened to source some things from Taiwan or mainland China.

I love those Felo driver handles...they are the best on earth imo. That grip style was originally an American design by a small company called AT&G in the mid-90s I think. They never grew very large and eventually went under as many US manufacturing companies did. I don't remember if Felo was the one that bought the rights to these grips first or if they just ended up with them at some point, but that's their origin. I still have a couple of the old AT&G with their blue plastic - they are outstanding and I wish I'd bought a full set back then. I once made a silly project where I split shipping pallet boards (solid oak in those days) and made a tiny rustic looking cage - put in almost a hundred drywall screws by hand with this screwdriver and no pilot holes. It was much easier and amazingly my hand/forearm didn't really feel tired or sore later. Good grips.

I don’t see why English speakers would pronounce the K unless it was drilled into them… All English words I can think if that start with Kn have the K silent… Knee, Knock, Knife, Know, Knot, Knickers etc etc… It can’t be expected that when Knipex brand first becomes known to someone, this person should all of a sudden think “Hmm, where does this Knipex brand come from? Ahh, from Germany, cool! From now on I’ll always pronounce the K in Knipex!”

Here’s a very interesting video from KC tool for those interested in german tools, I’ve been collecting them for a couple years and honestly will never go back to Chinese made hand tools, it’s not so much in the steel as chinese factories can make great steel when they want to, its the amazing zero BS design and function over form engineering. There should be a thread for German hand tools

I used to say nay-pex until I learned it’s pronounced ca-nee-pex

I am German and please take a hard “K”.
One of the best tools you can get at a good price in Germany. I think in the US it is more expensive.
