CPF Sold - Under New Management

It’s easy to overdo moderation, yes. I was a mod, too. And I wouldn’t do it again.

Bit of a distinction first.

A newb is someone interested in lights and wants to learn more.

The Muggle™ is your neighbor, your barber, your cashier, etc., who just wants A Light, and isn’t interested in cri, lumens, color temp, etc. Press button, light up, that’s all they want.

Yeah, I am not sure but have a feeling he may have a family… so there’s that kind of higher priority need. He was such an active & helpful reviewer in the early emerging LED flashlight years. I also must imagine that at this point, he has so many lights well and above his needs that the drive to explore more must’ve waned. I do wonder if he has seen the Anduril UI or is aware of the latest emitter breakthroughs on extreme throwing.

I wish he'd make an update on his site so people would know what he's up to. There's no mention anywhere that I can see of his pulling out of the LED flashlight enthusiast community.

Dang, his last review was Nov. 2016 and the list of reviews is huge! Like maybe 300+. I really enjoyed his reviews as well - he set a few standards. The pipe lightbox I still use was based on his design, and I think i used to get close to the same results, before the maukka calibration era.

I have lost track of how many different topic threads that I’ve posted in about the difference between the two forums. Self built was my first attraction to the other forum, and then sky lumen. I felt so sad when I realized that Self built would not be doing a review on the Noctigon meteor M43. Then when I finally figured out that going gear would not be carrying the meteor, I discovered sky lumen. Then I discovered this forum. There are so many things in life that there are two of. Two different kinds of human beings. Two different political outlooks. Two different economic outlooks. Two different philosophies on life. Two different personality styles. Two different leadership styles. Two different financial bases. I recall that one forum wanted to maintain and protect their strong focus on non-budget lights, and then someone saw the need to have a forum for where frugal meets flashlight. That, and also different leadership style. I have had lots of time to meditate and philosophize about the difference between the two flashlight forums. I have decided that the difference between the two forums is not mirrored in the dichotomy between conservative and liberal politics. The dichotomy between the two forums is not mirrored in the conflict between progressive and liberal philosophy. The dichotomy between the two forums is not mirrored in the dichotomy between spiritual and materialistic philosophy. The dichotomy between the two forms is not mirrored by the dichotomy between male and female. I have come to a firm conclusion that the dichotomy between the two forums is not a mirror of the conflict between good and evil. The idea that one is good and the other is evil is a false conclusion. The final battle between good and evil is not mirrored in the difference between the two flashlight forums. One has one financial focus, and the other has a different financial focus. One has one type of leadership style, and the other has a different kind of leadership style. Labeling one as good, and the other one as bad, is a gross oversimplification, and is also in poor taste. The next time another topic thread about how horrible the other forum is comes up, I’m just gonna buy a Malkoff and a Convy and then my existence firmly halfway in between both will be complete.

That’s the BLF spirit! Or at least the Convoy part of it is!

I wonder if the CPF Facebook page went with the sale ?

Someone on CPF already asked about this, and yes it did.

Is the facebook page part of the sale?

Yes, and also the Underground
I will still be around to help out with the transition and so will the other moderators and administrators.

What i found most interesting is

Does this mean this buyer pledged to be just as punitive?

I understand why you want to insult me. Its okay. I still stand by what I said being that we’re specifically talking about this forum. I’m happy that BLF has never been down for me and it loads fast. And overall this is such a great community from which I’ve learnt so much!

Apparently my attempt at humor failed. I apologize.

Back in the early 2000’s I operated a heavily modified (by me) phpBB for customer support as a side project. The PHPheads back then were completely convinced, and very vocal that Java would never get anywhere for web development because all the Java web frameworks were multi-threaded. PHP didn’t and couldn’t use threads at all, so, obviously, nobody needs threads.

I haven’t had much to do with the PHP community since then, but in 2021, with the so many of the dominant web dev frameworks being multi-threaded, doesn’t it seem just a tad Luddite to claim that a widely used, proven technology is just a buzz-word?

Anyone check cpf lately? It’s ads galore. I won’t be visiting that site anymore.

I just went there with an adblocker, and of course it looked fine.

Do those moderators get paid? Or they do it for the power?

uBlock Origin Firefox add on works wonders for removing ads, you can also choose to hide other annoying things such as Racoon City’s signature picture that takes up half the screen (haven’t seen it for years until he recently changed it)

Adblock Plus works great as well.

I was thinking about buying BLF ...but every time I get 64$ in my pocket I go buy more things off Amazon.

$11 MPOW headphones rule !!!

Your web browser has to be extremely short and wide for my signature to take up half the screen.

(I don't know why in the world you would have your browser set so short and wide.)

The built-in ad blocker on Opera is working wonders in my favor. Only two advertisement banners at the top where they aren’t a bother.
