Best high CRI emitter right there. I did a quick color test of a 3500k B35A, good tint, great beam uniformity, great color rendering with very slightly oversaturated reds (good).
Simon could you look into sourcing it ? You already have several boost drivers (6V) suitable for it, the only downside of this LED is the footprint as it doesn’t have a neutral thermal pad, it requires a new MCPCB and the dielectric thermal conductivity/thickness plays a big role in the MCPCB’s performance.
Yes it would also be great if Simon could source lenses with better AR coating, current Convoy lenses have relatively strong purple reflections due to the AR coating, making the beam more green. Mauka tested this here with the L6 FC-40 , this is in line with my measurements of several Convoy lenses (duv + 0.002~+0.003).
(Different grades of) multilayer AR coating lenses have a lower effect on tint and also a slightly better light transmission, satisfying both tint and performance.
Some coatings can also have a different dominant reflected color, such as green which would then improve the tint (less green), even better. Djozz showed an example here
If sourcing better AR lenses is difficult (with cost considerations), a plain lens doesn’t modify the tint (as long as it’s good quality glass, not the kind that looks green when looking at its edge) and could be an option for customers who favor tint over performance.
Yeah but I don’t doubt Clemence when he said it’s the most expensive MCPCB he ever got made, very thin high conductivity dielectric and 3oz copper pour.
That said it doesn’t need to be driven at 4A, I’m guessing that limiting to 2~2.5A (2.4A max pulse rated current) is probably going to be OK on a normal MCPCB.
I could get some of the Convoy 276A MCPCBs with my next order and test if I find the time.
