What do you prefer on our M400 new model (21700 type)?

We would to do a simple survey for the M300’s brother—the M400 new model. It will be use 21700 battery. We have options hard to make a choice.

  1. Use CREE XHP70 led, 4000 Lumens
  2. Use Luminus SST70 LED, 3000 Lumens
    Or others good options you guys may suggest.
    More floody beam, or more focus beam?
    Really need your help, and let us know how do you think?

GT-FC40 (best light quality), SFT-40 (most throw) or XHP 35/35.2 HI (balance of both if you can get 80+ CRI bin)

I’ll gladly trade 33%+ output for better light quality and/or significantly higher intensity/candela.

With XHP50.3 HI and other new Cree emitters coming out I’d be hard pressed to settle for the massive angular tint deviation of XHP50.2/70.2 or the only cool white and greenish hue of SST-70.

I fully agree with BurningPlayd0h.

My personal wishlist…

M400 (thrower style)

  • Cree XHP50.3 HI 4000K - 5000K
  • Luminus SFT70 5000K - 6500K (3000lm max)
  • Luminus SFT40 5000K - 6500K (2500lm max)
  • Luminus SST70 6500K (3000lm max)

M400 (floody style)

  • Cree XHP70.3 4000K (not available yet)
  • Cree XHP70.2 4000K (4000lm max)
  • Getian FC40 4500K 90+ CRI (2000lm max)

I guess the MT-G2 :heart_eyes: is out of the question?

If using SSTs/XHPs/etc., and if heat allowing, a nice TIR lens would avoid angular tint-shift from lots of LEDs.

I bet a common 26mm TIR might fit with a little persuasion.

The light doesn't really appeal to me, but I voted for CREE XHP70 because it's a little brighter.

Does the CREE XHP70 produce less heat than the Luminus SST70?

If so, then there's another reason.

It’s impressive to get over 400m throw from such a small reflector, but for any appreciable illumination of the target, spill is going to suffer. What voltage and amperage will the driver be capable of supporting? I take it this is a single cell flashlight?
Unless you’re going for CSLNM1, CULPM1, or SFT40 narrow beam profiles, I’d pick XHP70… but would prefer XHP50 for the temp range.

GT-FC40 and or XHP70.2 in the slightly rosy 5A (4000K) bin with a frosted lens for no ugly artifacts and rings in the beam.

Please, STOP WITH XHP70.2 in a small diameter reflector!

XHP50.3HI and XHP35.2 HI in 90CRI is what can look good in this size.

And Skilhunt USE ORANGE PEEL REFLECTOR!

I had M200 and M300 and sold both because of ugly as hell beam.

How about high CRI? Nichia B35AM 5000K R9080

Now this could be a amazing.

NO sst70 or sft40, at least if they are CW. light is damn green. i perspnally would havent been intereted in them as tint is hell green. especially in sft40

xhp70.2 4000-5000K is great choice as well as xhp35hi with the same color trmperature.

i suppose that TIR optic version with some HI CRI leds would also be interesting

Of the two choices in the OP, assumed that it will be cool white anyway, SST-70 is far superior: still great output for the size of the flashlight, not the extreme flooder that a XHP70 would make it, and super clean beam without tint shifts.

Btw, Skilhunt could make a prototype of both and see for themselves which is better. But I guess that for selling it, which one is better is less important than what people think is better.

well, our opinion about tint of sst70 is totally different -)

I do not like cool white tints, but the SST70 that I tested (a sample that I got via LuckySun) had a straightforward cool white tint, not green or anything.

Most important question. Is this M400 driver 6V or 12V?

Short answer. Offer BOTH.

7070 footprint emitters are pure flood in this size optic.Pair the XHP70 (better yet Getian GT-FC40 hi-cri) with a Frosted or Pebbled TIR.

5050 would ideally be a Cree XHP50.3 HI. Range of tint and CRI options. Luminus SST70 is only CW and won’t gain as much interest here in my opinion. Future SFT-70 would yield best lumens*throw numbers

The LED that I think would sell this light to me is the Nichia B35AM in 9080 bins. But I’m guessing this driver is 12V…

If other emitters won’t be considered then i’d vote for SST70 and swap emitter with Nichia B35AM in that case.

That’s very promising. A cool white with no bluish, greenish, or yellowish tinges should be more suitable for long throw than a warm tint.
