I did discuss the strange oscillation with a couple of electronics experts but without a look at the driver components (the driver is glued in place and not removable) they could not offer more insight into the cause.

Is it temperature regulation? Seem to correlate but I cannot see what causes what.

Ok. Let us know what it is. The TrustFire MC1 does something that looks basically the same, but starting much earlier, long before voltage becomes critical. Maintains the slope of the curve in the minimum with several spikes. I thought it were ATR, but I might be wrong.
