A beefy light powered by 4x AA, a very decent zoom and great COB-LEDs. In my video I compare it to a high quality light and demonstrate the difference with beamshots.

I have a Polysteel 600 and it has some likely similar deficiencies, the identical looking battery holder strips the wrapping from batteries (it was designed for Alkaline single uses so stripping there is no big deal). Also i fried one by using it on high for a half hour. Coast replaced it under warranty.
This one looks like it would have the same problems, though i hope it has temperature regulation which would solve the overheating issue.
The side lights are interesting and the side switch instead of tail switch and the new tail magnet are nice touches.
The Coast branding inside the reflector is humorous.
BTW the runtime confusion you mention is down to 10% brightness, it would sag after a few minutes on alkaline and keep above 10% till the 3 hours and whatever minutes. The ANSI standard is down to 10% output.

I ll do a more extended overheating test but to me the output is just not there to fry much.
I would like to see something like the PS700 from a high quality manufacturer like Sofirn or Nitecore. A utility light in high quality.
I used my Polysteel 700 for changing out a fuse holder and battery on my car one night. It was perfect. I would probably tend to keep it on medium on the front LED for longer term use, as the plastic doesn’t seem to be good for venting/heatsinking.
I’ll usually set it at a few degrees off of spot so that I have good throw and spill. If it sits for a few days, the head twist takes a lot of force to start moving again. I actually like that for my purposes, but some reviewers think it isn’t a zoom because they can’t break it free for that initial loosening.
I have the smaller versions of this light that aren’t my favorites but I like this 700 and got two at $20 when they were on sale locally. The smaller ones I always keep a few degrees from spot to get decent throw and spill.
If you want better color rendition and go to HD, they have flashlights that advertise “color correct” this or that. I can’t remember the brands or models, but in some jobs, identication of colors is important. For the price, though, I haven’t picked those up so I don’t know how true the colors are.

I had it running for 45min on max including both COB during a hot desert night. It got warm, not hot Also the output dropped almost a 50% on all LEDs I would guess.At least on alkaline batteries nothing should fry. Is there a stepdown or even temp control…? I doubt it.
I’ve seen a review showing that the Coast Polysteel 600 steps down to 22% of original output by 6 minutes, which is pretty terrible for a light than runs on AA batteries! The plastic outside casing means that it can’t dissipate heat well, so the heat stays inside the light and can fry internals.
Its also delayed frying.
Mine worked fine for a while after my half hour use but then died one day.

It's interesting to hear someone on BLFs opinion of a light a friend might show up with at the neighborhood cookout .
I rarely find anything at the local big box stores that I find interesting ..But I'm always willing to be proven wrong. You have to give Coast credit for sticking around as long as they have and making a name for themselves .. Otoh $40 is kind of steep for a hardware light
