Newbie in need of help!

Any and all help will be appreciated, I'm New and really don't know much, i have a Haikelite ht35 that my brother has dropped and it broke the dome off of the led and or no longer works.I guess the flashlight has been discontinued so I can't find one anywhere. Any ideas where I can find one or maybe a replacement led? Thanks again for your help. I really like this light and would like to save it if at all possible.

Do you have pictures? Is this the xhp35 HD bersion or the xm-l version? Haikelite are easy to take apart so you can get inside it okay to swap out the emitter, but you’ll need a soldering iron. I don’t know of you’re proficient with that.

We need to know what version you have though. 8f it’s xhp35 yo7 need that emitter, but if xm-l, you have some options for upgrades.

Are you talking on the dome of the LED or the front lens

We're very glad to have you here, Skbooth1!

A picture of the flashlight would be worth a thousand words. It sounds like the lens is broken - not the dome on the LED. But we are having to guess. That's why a picture would be helpful for us to help you fix the problem.

Xhp35hd version. Pictures won't help my brother tried to fix and lost the emitter I believe I need a driver and emitter. Does someone make a drop in?

Wonder if he was trying to de-dome the emitter and broke a wire

Your brother sounds like my brother ...

oh wait ..It sounds like me ,

Now what did I do with that emitter ???

The driver and LED should survive a drop unless there is physical damage. I don’t think it’s even possible to dedome an LED by dropping it. Seems something else is causing the issue, but like others have said, pics would certainly help to diagnose the problem.

Not real sure how he did it but the emitter no longer has a dome. And he conveniently misplaced it so I can't even take pics and ask for help. And apparently the light has been discontinued.

Are you positive it didn't come with the HI version domeless emitter? I'm not familiar with that light but there are some past threads on the forum about it and its driver. If you search the light model and then also search for "LD-51" you'll find a couple of helpful threads.

One question I have is about the driver itself. It's not so easy to find the XHP35 drivers since they are all boost drivers having to bump the voltage up to 12v, but at least your light uses two cells...those are somewhat easier to find vs a single cell boost. However, you also have an electronic side switch in that light and that complicates things. I've been in a similar situation trying to find a Lumintop driver for this emitter and thus far the only source seems to be Lumintop, but they have been unable to send me a spare (sent me an incorrect driver at first...) and they discontinued that light as well. I will probably be stuck with trying some kind of less than ideal modification or possibly just retiring the light or selling it as a host-for-parts. Shame since it was a nice light but this kind of thing is what we often run into with light manufacturers who either disappear or don't understand what it means to support a light purchase with a warranty. Hmmph.

You can find the LD-51 driver still at Kaidomain but I'm unclear if it will still work in your light with the side switch. Those have blue boards and the ones that came in your light were red and sounds like slightly different both in current output/modes as well as accommodating the side switch. You might post in one or two of those threads to see if anyone from back then can tell you for sure or went through the same with their lights.

The emitter is easy to find and you can get those bare if you want to try and solder that onto your existing star/mcpcb, or you can buy them already mounted to the star and make the swap easier. Kaidomain has several choice there as well...different color temps, the HD domed or the HI domeless, and the newer XHP35.2 version as well. Those are all available at various stores on aliexpress, too, and maybe even at domestic places like Digikey, etc.

I think your board is 28mm...looking around at other options I see lots of 6v 2-cell in that size but not 12v jumped out at me...but it's possible another company's driver in that size would work, however many are made for higher current output which would fry the XHP35 emitter.

Of course you could also just skip that 12v emitter and use something different, making the driver choice a bit easier. You're getting to dive in probably deeper than you expected but sometimes that happens with repairs and mods when designs are different than the ol' boring standards. The XHP35 kind of complicated that further, which is one reason that it fell out of favor pretty quickly although it's still a good emitter.

It would be fun to fix this one if you don't mind the difficulty (and assuming you can solder and such) but there are also a lot of relatively inexpensive throwers these days to choose from in the $35 to $70 range and many of those will give a much improved beam and output compared to this light (from what I read of others' comments, of course...). Convoy has several in their L-series lights that have decent sized heads and most will take 2 cells if you like that (some single cell options also). Astrolux has a few as well, lots of others.

Here's a link to Kaidomain for the driver, but again, someone would need to verify that it works with your side switch: http://kaidomain.com/LD-51-28mm-1-5A-2-Cells-Boost-Driver-Circuit-Board-for-Cree-XHP35

And a link to their XHP offerings...your original HD domed model is on the second page: http://kaidomain.com/Flashlight-DIY-and-Tools/LED-Emitters-or-LED-Star-on-PCB/cree-xhp-series-leds

Kaidomain links are often weird so if they don't work just visit the site and search "ld-51" and "cree xhp" or find them in the diy components drop down list.
