[FLF] Five Light Friday - what would you keep?

My collection is in a bloated phase, as I try and compare various lights. For me it’s less about the specific light, so much as the functional slots.

1: Tiniest edc - Olight S mini cu
The copper makes the tiny light feel more substantial and easier to control. The switch is a bit mushy, and I haven’t gotten around to swapping the emitter, but I keep trying to find a replacement for it and failing. Bought another at a markup after losing my first.

2: Rotary/Nightstand light - Jetbeam rrt01 2019
I was initially disappointed when getting this light due to the size. But my opinion reversed upon nightfall. While the tuning of the ring is not perfect, there is a lot of space for ultralow modes, replacing Anduril sunset mode for me. Shame the new version is longer and has a redundant clicky.

3: Bright, medium size, with compromise beam - Noctigon k9.3
Currently this slot is filled with the fireflies eo7 with 219b sw45k. The beam pattern is perfectly even, but too floody for the outdoors. My old Fenix tk45 could throw similarly with less output. The k9.3 should have better throw, and I’m interested to see if I use the red channel. A Convoy m21d in gt-fc40 will compete for this slot when it comes out.

4: Pocket thrower - Lumintop x9l
I was expecting this one to be an impractical hotrod. But the beam pattern is great, the spill is brighter than you would expect, and the body is lovely and practically sized. The Noctigon Kr1 is fighting for the same spot in the collection, maybe the incoming sst20 version, along with 18350 tubes will change my mind. Manker mc13 with emitter swap will also be a contender, but my guess is that an edc light needs more spill.

5: Dedicated single-cell thrower - Manker u22iii
I’ll be sharing this slot with my Dad, as I don’t really need one, but he likes these a lot. Currently have an L21a Osram, which is capable, but somewhat unbalanced to use with the tailswitch. Have the K1 in w2 and sbt 90 to compare. W2 has cleaner, less ringy beam than the Convoy, with a tighter spot. Sbt 90 beam pattern is tighter than my x9l, but still versatile. The beam quality is muddy though, visible artifacts when spinning it. Also, it gets much hotter for the same throw vs Osram. Will try the fireflies t9r next. Then manker u22 iii for Osram, or mk37 or acebeam k30-gt for sbt90. Predicting the u22 wins, for compactness and the preferred tir beam pattern.

Dt8 lh351d and nov-mu would need to fight the first two, probably won’t make the cut.

Djozz- thanks for sharing! That's a great balanced top 5!! You cheattted lol. It's ok I get it! Pretty cool the d80v2 made the list, I know of a used one for sale and now THANKS to you, I'm going to buy it! Oh boy.

also- that led modded gt4 sounds awesome with nicely tinted 4000k !

Pyriteparachute- that makes sense! I like your take on it! Like the x9l a lot!

The M6 has triple Cree XM-L2 T6 3C LEDs which pull around 20 amps on turbo.

Yes, the E17As certainly are special and the Optisolis 6500K is currently (as far as I know) the highest CRI LED available.

My top 5 at the moment would probably be (in no particular order):

1) Lumintop GT94vn - just a beast and a great combination of flood and throw.

2) Bobralight SC64c/w - it’s hard for me to choose the emitter 219b sw35, sw45k or XHP35 HI 90+ CRI. All beautiful in their own way, but if I had to choose the HI 90+ CRI for it’s versatility.

3) Noctigon K9.3 - 219b sw35 primaries and SST20 deep red secondaries. It is my go to house light at night.

4) Acebeam X80GTvn - a wall of light that’s unforgiving. Perfect for ceiling or all bounce photography indoors. People forget the importance of lighting and it’s hard to get with group shots.

5) Noctigon K1 w2 blue - it’s just a different beast. I prefer over the SBT90, the W1 green and w2 red. It’s just special.

*Almost made the cut D18 sw35, KR1vn SBT90 and Acebeam L35.

What a setup! and your honerable mentions had me looking at acebeam L35's for an hour yesterday thank you very much lol!

i didn't realize how dangerous this thread would be for me. seeing all of these awesome lights! yikes!

jon_slider and Geuzzz - can you help a neophyte by naming the lights in your photos? thanks!

From left to right:

Olight S mini ti (modded with 7a XML2)
Eagletac D25C ti (modded with sst20 3000k and BLF A6 driver)
Jetbeam TCR1 ti (modded to triple 219b SW35)
Acebeam TK16 copper (modded with 219b SW30)

these 4 are so nice!

I definitely have a new FLF list to share, it may take me until midnight where I'll 5 minutes again but I'll post it!

5 plus one … just in case.

You like green lights

I want to keep em all ! But this is what I played with this week .

Emisar D4V2
Emisar DT8
Nightwatch NSX3
Noctigon K9.3
WT90

Awesome setup! Id keep them lol

Damn, cant disagree with this hah. DT8 and WT90 are 2 of my top "lights of the year" candidates

OK, so I almost feel like i am cheating because now i am posting some lights that after more thought i should've posted last week (cough cough K75 cough..) So i feel like it is ok if this list changes week to week. I definitely meant to include this Convoy and forgot about it because it doesn't sit with all of my other lights. the M21a with cslpm1 is the best bang for buck light of any i own. ok, here it is:

Emisar DT8 - xpl-hi 4000k 5D

Convoy M21a - CSLPM1, 6amp driver

Acebeam K75 - yes!

Noctigon KR1 - sft40 (the BEST setup! Perfect beam)

Skilhunt M300 - xhp35 HI 4000k, Hi CRI (so awesome, i got this week, and i already know I will never sell it. Really surprised me). Thanks to members Mpblitt and ID30209 for making this light the way it is and helping it find me hah.

Zebralight H603c - my most used light. Mainly used during hobbyist activities and modding.

Zebralight SC64w HI - excellent all-round EDC light.

  • Small and light.
  • Turbo isn’t as bright, but it sustains higher output than any of my small triples or quads. An FW3A or D4 starts much higher than the Zebralight. Tailstand both, turn them onto their highest setting and let them run for 90 seconds. The Zebralight is noticeably brighter.
  • It’s a testament to Zebralight’s design that even though this model is something like 4-years old, there still isn’t anything the same size that does it all better.

Modded Emisar D4V1. I like this one, because it works well, is unique, and is special because I modded it myself.

  • Firmware updated to Anduril.
  • Metal switch boot
  • Lighted ring around the switch boot (lit with 15 small aux blue leds).
  • Blue aux bezel leds.
  • Quad XPL HI. I think I have three 5D and one 3D inside.
  • All anodizing removed and bare aluminum polished up.
  • Chrome FW3A clip installed.

Jetbeam TCR-01 - beautiful titanium light with great interface and look.

  • Mine is sporting a dedomed 4000K Dogfarts LH351D.

Lumintop FWAA Ti-Cu with 4000K SST20. For when I’m the mood for something smaller.

Note: My “favorite lights” list changes frequently, depending on my mood or what I just got. It’s entirely likely I would have a different answer next week.

Quite easy, I only have 5.

- Sofirn SP40

- Convoy S21B with KW CULPM1.TG

- Convoy S11 with GT FC40

- Convoy S2 + with 219B

  • Convoy C8+ with KW CSLNM1

Nice!

Nice! I need to see a pic of that D4V1 !
