Looking for a small clip on lantern/beacon/marker

I need a bunch of lanterns/beacons that:

  • are tiny
  • light (plastic)
  • offer unidirectional light
  • cheap
  • warm white or orange light
  • have a clip or lanyard (so the person is visible at night)

Only Thorfire KL02 comes to mind but what other options are there?

Was thinking of the KL02 but couldn’t remember the number (or mfr), but yeah, that’s it.

AA light with a smoosh-on dome?

I have two KL02. Small and light, it fits in every pocket. Very good if you have a limited budget.
Of the more expensive Niterore LA10 and Klarus FL1A.

Nitecore NU05 is a cool little light. It has a slow red beacon at 4lm, fast red beacon at 4lm, slow white beacon at 37lm, or constant on at 37lm. Comes with a headband but can also clip on to just about anything. I have seen them for about $15. Though I see Amazon has them as a add on item for $8.48 right now.

Thats a backup option because those caps get lost.

Wow interesting lamp and a good bargain too! However:

  1. only 5pcs in stock - I need 15
  2. no low power mode (only blinking) = 1 hour runtime, which is too short for me.

LA10 and FL1A are both very nice. I have Fenix CL09 which are in a similar price range but now I need 15 pcs and those 3 would be too expensive.

I was going to bring that one up too. Totally neat and lightweight tiny light! It also has an internal USB rechargeable battery. I paid $15.00 for mine and at $8.48, it’s a fantastic bargain.

Perhaps something like this About $7 per pc.

My dog wears a Nite Ize SpotLit on his collar at night. White (red also available).

Very good.

Lots of knock-offs available on Amazon etc. for a fraction of the price. I don’t know how they compare.

There’s a UK based company called ALPKIT (ALPKIT.co.uk) who do CR2023 powered lights to go on straps/headbands called the Blip. £6 for 2.

Edit-whoops, I think these come in red only.

Alternatively, try an AAA glotoob, there were AA clones around a few years ago by a Chinese company called EDCgear.

Besides the NU05, I’m also trying out bicycle tail lights. Color tint isn’t so nice but they’re small and cheap. Check out those by Machfally or Pagao

Blip is a red blinker but still thanks for sharing!

Glo-Toob is also a backup option due to the higher price but purpose wise it is a perfect match. TheEDCgear outdoor survival LED light - EDCGEAR Glo-Tube AAA green review (budget Glow-Toob clone) - might be usable but its out of stock everywhere

Just received my order.

15 pcs of UST SplashFlash from Amazon

Here is why:

  • Long runtime of ~11 hours
  • Uses cheap AAA
  • Rugged
  • Good price

I really appreciate all the feedback - got some great ideas!

I have a Nite Ize Spotlit carabiner clip-on “beacon” light. It’s now 10 years old. Still works fine. Now Nite Ize is targeting pet owners, for clipping on a collar for night walks. Good idea. It used to come in just red and white options, but apparently you can get it in a variety of colors now (it’s a white LED but with tinted translucent casing). And apparently there’s now a multi-colored LED option, for about double the cost.

The brightness is actually pretty soft, enough to gently illuminate a small room with “moonlight” while still not screwing too badly with night vision. Plus the rugged casing is nicely done—no anodizing to get scratched, no glass to break, no accidental activation. It requires a good firm squeeze to activate. Once on, I think up to 10 secs a 2nd press will activate the rapid blinking mode. If you wait longer the 2nd press simply turns it off. This makes for a great travel light in your carryon bag. It’s bright enough that it’ll help you find bag contents without casting off bright light that might disturb others around you.

The total runtime is 20 hrs, on 2xCR2016. Not bad… but I’m wondering if there might be something else available that is more efficient. Any ideas? Or is this the only light like this of its kind?

I got a 4pak from… I’d swear it was Sofirn… of doodads similar to that.

Plastic case, ring of COB LEDs, pushbutton in the middle (4 colors, 1 each per set). Coin-cell powered. High/low/strobe/off sequence.

(Looked for more info, can’t find it yet.)

Interesting. Maybe Sofirn discontinued them. Can’t find any sign. A “ring” of COB LEDs—sounds like it might carry quite a lumens punch for the size on high.

One other detail on the SpotLit — the two domed translucent discs are made of some kind of TPU material (not silicone). Semi-matte finish, so there’s some grip to it. But really resilient. No sign of yellowing. It’s supposed to be water resistant, but I wouldn’t put to use in water activities (like clipping to a life preserver). The LED side has a slight optic-like quality at the center. On the reverse side, it’s slightly flattened and has a raised “power on” icon that you can feel with your thumb, so it’s easy to figure out orientation in the dark. One could say an “overbuilt squeeze light.”

Ah, I was close… Wurkkos. Wellp, nfi who’s “Zotoyi” now.

And don’t forget the dreaded KL02. Swap the resistor for a higher value to reduce current to a glow, and it’d last a long time. Use a ’123 instead of 16340.

They make one w/ GITD where this one is grey.
