Wrist watches. Post pics, if you EDC one!

technically you are supposed to have mech watches serviced every couple years - usually at over $100

wle

I was only going to buy one G-Shock (really). Wound up with three (and one Pro-Trek). All four have solar charging and multiband-6 (radio controlled). Reception from the WWVB transmitter in Fort Collins Colorado works flawlessly so far (time has updated every night). I'm about 950 straight miles from the transmitter.

I understand that, but I also read that you may get away with 10 to 15 years between services. Will see what happens…

True, but a 15 year service will probably end up being a costly repair instead. Periodic services are preventative maintenance. Just the same, you can drive your car 15,000 miles between oil changes too but it’s probably not a great idea.

That said, if the watch was inexpensive it’s probably not worth worrying over as the cost of servicing could easily exceed the value of the watch.

Low-beat movements can often easily go a decade+ without service and run just fine. They’re made to be used, abused and go without service due to less stringent precision of parts and reduced wear from the lower beat rate . Accuracy might drift, but you aren’t protecting a valuable asset from costly degradation like when you get a Rolex or Patek Phillippe serviced.

Ah, another G-Shock fanatic! I have a number them… about 60 altogether, actually. Many of them vintage screwbacks. Bought for collecting then got bored. My favorite is the GD-350 with vibration. Nice bright LED back light. Works so well for timing at the grill, because of the vibration alert.

Wearing a GW-9100 Gulfman today, for watersports. Just a nice all-around rugged watch, syncs nightly with no problems.

Are there any G-Shock anomalous rehab organizations?

Asking for a friend.

I have one G-Shock, the GD-350, because it has vibration and at least three alarms.

There are not many Casio watches with those two features.

Been reading a lot about watch “modding” and decided to start with these g shocks, and since then they’ve been on my wrist most days… All black GA2100 Casioak PVD v3 bracelet and GW-B5600AR-1 with the steel camo v4

I have been wearing heavy 44/45mm diver watches 24/7 for more than a decade and switching to these small g shocks in stock form felt really weird, so these aftermarket mods added some nice heft and substance. The only downside is that even though these are beautifully machined I don’t trust the PVD to last very long, it’s ok at best.

Tell your friend the only hope is to join WatchUSeek and commiserate with fellow G-Shockaholics on the G-Shock subforum. That or make a promise to yourself that you’ll flagellate if more G-Shocks are purchased. :disappointed:

It’s probably the most useful rugged affordable G-Shock made. Alarms on these digital watches are ridiculous, only effective in quiet environments. Any wind noise? Forget it. Vibration alarm works well. The only thing I have that beats it is a Garmin Vivoactive HR watch (about 50% more “buzzy”). The GD-350 also has a terrific backlight. I’ve got the negative display (pictured) and the positive display, both very readable.

My friend just ordered several NATO and Zulu straps (with adapters). When will it end?

Those are gorgeous G-Shock watches—congrats! I was buying in the sub $250 range… and then, CASIO went nuts. All of these top shelf all metal models priced over $500. For that money, given how there’s no real step up in the movement features, the design would have to really speak to me. The deal breaker for me is, they MUST fix this anemic alarm problem. It’s just maddening how faint they are.

I received this watch today.

It's a Casio GD-350-8.

I have a similar GD-350 with slightly different colors.

The watch I received today will be my backup in case my other watch quits functioning.

The GD-350 watches have been discontinued.

They're still available for purchase, but that won't always be the case.

I got mine off of eBay brand new for $49.39 plus tax.

This watch typically costs $84 brand new, so I got a pretty good deal.

I think I am done buying watches unless Casio comes out with something better (that I can afford.)

Once I got my new G-Shocks, I had to try some after-market bands - for a little custom bling.

A couple of 5610 twins.

Yep, I put stainless steel mesh bands on all of my watches that I plan to wear.

no, i don;t have one but sort of wish i did…

Yes, very decent deal. The positive module GD-350 I posted about earlier was a used watch buy. Guy barely wore it. Still had the tag for it too, but not the box. Got it for $40 shipped. I’ve not kept tabs on G-Shock watches for a few years now. That’s sad they discontinued the GD-350. Excellent watch. I have the very first release that has the label “VIBRATOR” instead of “VIBE ALARM.” In G-Shock collecting lore, I imagine that it’ll likely fetch a nice resale price in the coming years. I remember reading about one guy who bought like 6 of them, after CASIO decided to change to “VIBE ALARM.” We all thought he was a bit nuts. Context and timing is everything.

My GD350-1 was an even better deal.

It was $35 with no tax, for "like new."

It looked brand new to me.

Got one used, bulletproof.

Hello guys. I’ve bought 2 vintage watches with defective handwinding movements, one one with a beat up case.

All I really like is the dials. Can anybody point me where I could get aftermarket cases or find out what watch could fit the dials? Quartz would be ok, even though I prefer mechanical, at least for the male version.

If I measure the watch dial with a caliper, what then? I’ve repaired a quartz with the help of youtube and my watch set, so I guess I could do it
