Is It safe to use...?

Liitokala is not to be trusted but I have several without any problem.
The problem I see with that is its appearance, a cover placed in a tacky way. “Chabacana”. Don’t use that battery
Liitokala is not a manufacturer of batteries, only a marketer and although it has items that go more or less well, others are quite far from …
By the way, there are several addresses to liitokala, suppose they are copycats who take advantage of the publicity of the name.
But that one with that aspect to know where it comes from.

If it was me I’d remove the wrapper to see if the cell body was damaged or if it was just a poor wrapping job. Afterwards if there’s any doubt then just get rid off it.

At first I thought it was the wrapper but upon further inspection it appears the actual battery casing is damaged. I would put it in the bin personally. I would try to replace it with a new cell directly from the manufacturer of the cell and not one that is rewrapped. Not worth burning your house down IMHO. Hope this helps. Cheers.

Could just give it to someone you hate.

I would not use this cell. If this cell came IN a flashlight, it must have been damaged before putting it in. This looks like physical damage caused by a fall, or lying UNDER an object, like the bottom of a pile. Certainly NOT the result of carefull handling.
Contact the seller. You have a contract with the seller: you deliver good money, he delivers a good product.

Should have smashed it with a rock or something. At least make it go out with a bang.

(For obvious reasons, do it outdoors.)

I would contact the seller ....get a new cell coming and then cut the bad wrap off to see what's really going on . It's gotta look worse than it really is .

Not safe to use. Please send in for proper battery disposable.

More inspection would need to be done. Take the wrap off and see what those dents really look like. Inspect both ends and then make a decision. If I was on a deserted island and had no other choice I would use it but otherwise I would not. It’s hard to believe that somebody put a wrap over those dents. You did not say where you got the flashlight and or battery.

Well, he kinda did (S21A), but dunno if that’s a legit come-with cell or if he got the light secondhand.

I don’t believe for a second that Simon shipped that out like that

Hence the “secondhand” part. Seriously doubt Simon would let something like that get by him. Maybe a “reseller” or something, no idea.

Its dented, what more proof do you need? What difference does it make if it was dented and then wrapped vs dented after wrapped.

Do you think this car was dented then painted?

Some people are more curious than others. They want to understand how and why things failed. How things are put together. Some people talk and don’t really add anything to the conversation.

Thank you all for your replies.
Following your advice I have already contacted the seller and will properly dispose of the battery.
I have little hope I can get a new one alone tbh. Getting Li-ion batteries by airship is not an option (dangerous goods restrictions) and living in an island does not help either.
That’s why I usually buy them as a bundle.
To be fair I must say I’ve bought a few flashlights with batteries from this Seller in the past and always received them all in perfect condition (not so the boxes) with an excellent customer service so no complaints at all till now.
For those of you asking about the hidden damage, I have removed the wrapper…

Yikes!

I would recycle that one.

Nope…any dents in a li-ion battery gets chucked. The dent can easily result in an internal short and venting of the battery. It is just not worth the risk.

It looks like it spun loose in the holding fixture and a chuck jaw took a little bite.

QC FAIL!
discharge and recycle.
yesterday!
that was dented before wrapping.

Update: Just to comment that after contacting the Seller he has honoured his good reputation and offered a battery replacement.

I will certainly keep on buying from his shop in future. His customer service is the best guarantee :+1:
