What knife did you get today?

SOG has made some really great knives outside of their usual mass production lines. I still have a San Mai Vulcan Tanto that is just gorgeous, very smooth action, wonderful blade… and it has kept me from buying so many knives in the 3.5 ~ 4.0” range. That Kiku is such a great looking knife. I love that rough age-prone micarta. I just wish it didn’t have that “spiked” flipper tab. I can see that getting snagged on stuff.

If you like the design, I recommend checking out the Djinn by Damned Designs. Front flipper that won’t snag on anything. Action is excellent.

Thanks! Interesting design. I see it’s an Indiegogo funded knife. Bummer to see the 50% off deal is over. :weary: I do see they’ve got a website with the Djinn available for $40, but not in that color scheme…

There are other color options too. I owned a black titanium handled one with S35VN steel. I kinda regret selling it…

today, a letter opener.
yes, we still get letters.

this is a stock image which
reflects the size and style:

Buck 120 General This was Buck of the month , August . Ironwood handle , brass bolster , D2 steel . Really beautiful looking knife.

Today I got my first ever WE knife after having positive experiences with other Civivis.

The beauty of the “black void opus” is the extreme subtlety in the closed position. If you don’t know what it is you’ll probably never guess it’s a knife, it has a harmless presence that makes it disappear into the environment. In the open position it forms a continuous smooth line along the back, I love the understated design and stealth element.

Although this is a front flipper it took me less time than expected to get familiar with, the deployment is fantastic but hard to close due to the recessed liner lock like most WE/civivi knives.

I think I’m settling into perhaps the last few knives I will keep in my collection. This Large Sebenza 31 with double lugs just came in. It checks pretty much all the EDC boxes for me. It’ll be a really hard decision between this and the Umnumzaan.

That is a sharp looking knife , will34 . I just picked this up the other day . Camillus Barlow , c. 1948. It’s in nice shape

Nice! I really like quality made sword letter openers. I found a Nordic / Scandinavian / Viking style one about 10” long that has a neat vibe to it. I’ve got a couple and was able to sharpen/hone one so it can actually cut things.

Beauty. Love those CF scales. Up there on the premium side of WE. Looks like $225 is about the going rate. Does it feel commensurate with the price? It’s nice that there are about 6 variants of this design.

I’m trying to decide between the Large Sebenza 31 or Umnumzaan as well.

11 of these for $11 at Walmart on clearance.
well, that was all they had in that store.

Thanks, it indeed is. It is probably the only knife in my collection that I wouldn’t feel judged if I carried it in more sensitives places like a indoor mall or wedding event.

I got it from whitemountainknives with a 10% discount using “knifedeals”, although this is not a cheap knife I do feel I paid a very fair price for it.

Now, does it feel commensurate with the price? it’s difficult to give a direct answer because this knife does not try to be more than what it is. On paper, $200 is more than adequate for a knife that has 20CV blade steel, titanium frame with carbon fiber inlay, internal milling for weight reduction, flush mounted liner lock and thru-blade stop pin. Technically speaking this is a impressive knife with near perfect machining and I couldn’t find a single manufacturing flaw. There are only two T8 screws holding the knife together each side but there is no wobble and the pivot screw can be adjusted to different levels of tightness before the blade starts to show any play, which shows the level of milling/machining precision. Despite all this, it is designed in a way that you don’t notice any of it at first glance, unlike let’s say the WE arrakis, which is made as a show off piece and the total opposite to the black void opus. Having said that, the design offers a tremendous value (at least for me). The show off factor of this knife is near zero and if it wasn’t for the CF inlay it would look like a oval smooth pebble, specially in this all black config.

For someone looking to show off a $225 titanium knife with intrincated handle that needed X hours in the milling machine, this is definitely NOT the one to get (there are lots of two sun knives for that purpose) instead, it’s a knife for those who can to appreciate the beauty of subtleness. I would go ahead and say the black void opus has a lot in common with the Gareth Bull shamwari, which for most people it is just a very plain and overpriced knife.

To me , this is what makes it a “ show “ knife .

Got this Asher Flashback since I liked the Nomad so much . This also is a nice knife .

Black double serrated Microtech Arbiter (:

Is this your first ZT knife? I was carrying my 5 year old Zero Tolerance 0350TS today in fact. Razor sharp and a great knife

From what will34 described, it’s a ZT knock-off, AliExpress Chinese Replica Edition.

Sounds great — thanks for all the details! Will have to earmark this for a later purchase, maybe if/when it goes on a bit more of a discount in the holiday months.

Just got this pretty little thing . Western Lockback c.1981 Brand new in box . Cummins logo
