[Review] Sofirn IF25A flashlight: $34 (discount code available) with 21700 cell, 3800lm, USB-C, Anduril [pic heavy]

I like this light, got the 4000K CRI 95 version so some loss of brightness but still enough to be fun to play with. Haven’t flashed the version but I know I got a new version of Andruil so they are updating these.

One thing I didn’t know when ordering is that there’s a clip available now:

https://nl.aliexpress.com/item/1005002870376003.html?spm=a2g0o.store_pc_home.productList_2692165.pic_0

Would have ordered it with the light as I’d have known, now it will have to wait for a next order because of high shipping on a separate order.

That’s good to hear. Do you know which version?

(You can check with this guide ANDURIL USER MANUAL & LIST OF LIGHTS - #114 by d_t_a )

It flashes 2020-03-18.

Ordered the clip:

Great light. Clip is a nice add-on

Same as my SP36 BLF. I have a IF25A on the way and am glad to know it has new firmware.

I want to mod it.Different leds for lumen race. Are the xplhi the brightest leds in this size for this optic?Iam bit lost in this new leds…thanks

Is it true that the button light of the IF25A doubles as a low-battery indicator, like this review seems to suggest?

Do you guys have a pdf version of the instruction manual? I cannot find it anywhere…

Yes, the switch is an SOC indicator (although I’ve never tested it on my sample). As Anduril (both 1&2) offers a battery check option (3C from off), LED status indicator is moot to me as I rarely run a battery under 3.5V. YMMV. I’d suggest sending an email directly to Sofirn for a manual copy.
Great light!

Thanks for the reply. Just to clarify what I meant: I know that the button light in the IF25A shows the charging status while it is plugged into a power source (red light = charging, green light = fully charged).
I am also familiar with the battery voltage check feature of Anduril.
What I am unsure of is whether the button light also glows red when the battery is running low. The YT review I linked says it does (although does not show it). On the other hand I found a reddit post saying it does not.

I don’t know of any Anduril lights with that feature. Aux. lights can be configured to indicate battery voltage.

With RGB style aux-LED and a fairly newer version of Anduril 1, the RGB aux-LED can be configured to “battery voltage”…

Taking a step further, the Noctigon K1’s RGB aux-LED is the button-LED, so I suppose the K1 button-LED (aux-LED) can be used to reflect battery voltage.
(I haven’t tried some newer Emisar/Noctigon flashlights recently, so probably some recent models may also have the same feature)

Sorry…maybe just a little difference in interpretation of SoC, as I was referring to the level of charge (0–100) vs. capacity of the cell while in use. No matter, it seems the switch LED on the IF25A does not perform the ‘red light’ function as noted in that r:// post. In my manual it does not even make mention of battery status indication by the switch LED. The website product description page is very vague, only stating the switch is supposed to provide some kind of indication of battery status, but not what it does to alert low cell voltage. All it states in the manual is that LVP kicks in at 2.8V to initiate step-down, and if the light is already at the lowest level it will shut off. Not sure if that helps your decision, but there it is.

Thanks. I did not know that about the K1. Nice feature.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions.

One more question:
Sofirn claim a sub-50uA idle drain for this light in its spec-sheet.
Have any of you guys confirmed that with actual measurements, by any chance?
I read & watched all the reviews I could find on the IF25A but could not find a single one, where the idle drain was measured :frowning:

I had all 3 of the lights below together, spent a lot of times reading great posts and reviews, and doing my own amateur level testing. Just like to add my humble opinions; hope they are helpful.
Thrunite T2 Neutral White - LED is one Cree XHP 70.2
Wurkkos TS21 4000k - LED is three Luminus SST20’s
Sofirn IF25a 4000k - LED is four Luminus SST20’s (NB: I got the 4000 mAh with Anduril 2 sent from US. The 5000 mAh is only available from China.)

FLOOD:
Without question, the Thrunite is the most floody of the 3. It also the brightest flood (not spot). The combination of great brightness and flood is a very very impressive light. If I walk into a small room and points this light up to ceiling, it’s almost as if someone has turned on the room light. And it does this with ease, staying cool, like it’s not even “trying.” Basically this light has low throw, but extremely high flood.
Next is Wurkko, medium/high flood, medium/low throw.
Very close to Wurkkos, but slightly less floody, is Sofirn IF25a. It has good flood, not just as extreme as the Thrunite T2. Sofirn is a medium flood, medium throw IMHO, and is very bright with both.
THROW:
Not surprisingly, Sofirn, then Wurkkos, then Thrunite. Mind you Sofirn is not a high level thrower. Versus my Olight Pro Warrior for example: Sofirn excels at lighting up a large area at say 50 yards and below, Olight lights up beyond, but a very small spot. Olight is fun far away, but Sofirn is fun up close, and more useful.
BRIGHTNESS:
Sofirn has brightest hot spot/throw, Thrunite has brightest flood (but hardly any throw), Wurkkos TS21 is the least bright, a couple steps behind the other 2.
PRO’s and CON’s:
Thrunite’s biggest problem is the overwhelming (yes overwhelming) green tint of the neutral white sample. I loved this light, but that green is pervasive and I saw it even before reading reviews and complaints about it. (I had the cool white T2 also, and didn’t like that light’s beam color.)
Wurkkos TS21’s biggest “problem” is the Sofirn: Sofirn does everything better. Wurkkos out of the box is for all practical purposes useless until you increase max allowed temp, to 60 C in my case. The light button does crazy blue light things (read thread, doesn’t bother me really). There is some problem with parasitic drain from the button light (read thread, doesn’t bother me either). But the biggest problem is simply that Sofirn is a much brighter light with same beam color. Sofirn out of the box works, and works at a cooler default temp, which I believe is 45 C.
Sofirn’s biggest problem, to my eyes anyway, is its look. But it excels at everything else. It’s like an average looking date with 4.0 GPA, cooks like a pro, and runs the marathon when she’s not studying. Kidding aside, IMHO Sofirn IF25a, the one with 4000k LED, all things considered (size, cost, brightness, beam color, CRI, etc.) will go down as one of the greatest EDC’s ever designed. I love this light. My only wish is a more convenient battery level indicator, like Thrunite, and Sofirn how about adding some colors to this like you did with the LT1 lantern. But bottom line: get this light! I’m thinking of getting one more in case they stop production LOL. All above of course IMHO.

Hey, what’s the pointy purple one? Can’t quite read what’s on the left side, looks like Oilight.

Olight M2R Pro Warrior Limited Edition. (Limited Edition has warmer tone than the original.)

Ah, tnx.
