The 9th Old Lumens Challenge is Coming!

The Old Lumens Challenge will be taking place this year. This will be the 9th Annual Old Lumens BLF Challenge. There will be some differences this year. Organizing this includes a lot of behind the scenes drudge work. I am not good at that sort of thing, so I proposed collaborating with member "everydaysurvivalgear". EDSG is going to be the person who arranges for the judges and prizes. I, MtnDon, will author the announcement topic page and maintain an index of the entrants under that topic page. I will have nothing to do with the selection of judges. I will not even know who the judges are. I will not have any say in where or how to obtain pledges for prizes.

However, I want to be a participant in making an entry. I have some wood in the shop that I am sure I can turn into another light.

My original intent was to open this 9th event as an exhibition. I proposed that in another topic a week or so ago. My hope was that once this got rolling as an exhibition someone would step up and arrange judges and prizes. That has simply happened earlier than expected.

So, my big question right now is: are there objections to me having this arm's length connection to this event and me participating as a builder?

As things sit right now my plan is to officially announce the 9th Old Lumens Challenge project work time will commence on the 9th of the 9th month, September 9. The duration will be 90 days. That announcement will be made in a new topic.

How does this sound to you?

As your builds are always beautiful and have your distinctive styling, and objections would imply that you will not doing a build which would be sad, I will have no objections

But apart from that I see no problems anyway.

Sounds good to me. No objections. :+1:

No objections here.

Doesn’t bother me :+1:

I am totally definitely against it!!! :rage:

Can you expand on why you’re against it Hank33 ?

I guess Hank33 is using irony
MtnDon, no issues for me either! Will be looking for your build :face_with_monocle:

Oh okay. Satire and sarcasm doesn’t usually translate well in forums. Nevermind my post :zipper_mouth_face:

No, I’m just kidding and I don’t have a problem at all with it. I just had a case of the funnies earlier. Sorry if I sidetracked anyone.

As someone who hasn’t yet participated in the contest, and most likely won’t this year (although I would really like to enter one day), I have no objections.

Organising involves a lot of drudgery and there’s a fairly small pool of volunteers. Entering the contest also involves a lot of work and there’s a fairly small pool of entrants. If someone is willing to help with organisation as well as enter the content that’s fantastic. As long as entrants aren’t involved in judging I don’t see a problem.

I really enjoy seeing all of the contest entries and appreciate the effort put in by both the entrants and the organiers. I hope the contest keeps running and I’m eble to participate in some way eventually.

No objections at all :+1:

I see no issue with it.
Happy to see this great project continues for another year:)

No objections from me.

I'm not a modder, and I don't have any skin in the game, but your suggestion, MtnDon, seems perfectly reasonable.

No objections. We need you in the OL contest! :person_with_crown:

Good to know that the 9th OL contest is about to start and many thanks to you, MtnDon and ESDG for running the contest.

Let’s hope we all manage to finish our builds within 90 days.

No objections at all, thanks to you, MtnDon and EDSG for keeping the contest going. As a long time lurker before joining this forum, I always want to join this great contest.

Although I am not a modder I do like to watch the many different entries progress to completion . Glad to see the contest continue in honor of old lumens and all the talented proteges.

I need to see this year’s beautiful wood flashlight. I have no objections.

No objections from me either! I’m just glad to see some folks stepping up to help… and that we’ll keep this tradition alive for at least another go-around. :+1:

I wood knot have a problem with that.
