Possible evolution of the Emisar DT8

Single 21700 with only slight change to the pocket rocket.

I thought a 21700 version existed… I guess I remembered browsing intl-outdoor poorly…

I would still appreciate the flat head aspect with 26800. I bet I would choose that over my other 26800s.

My work in the yard pants have pockets that big. Should probably come with a holster though

A 21700 version would be great. Runtime is rather short with 3000mAh 18650s.

There hasn’t been a new slab side light for awhile. It could keep the head shape and have a minimum size 2x18650 body, maybe monolithic with the head.

Speaking of dual barrel style 21700, I recall there was a development from YLP, a quite advanced light with Oled, complex UI and boost driver, there’s a thread somewhere on the fonarevka forum. I wonder if they kept working on the design.

I like the DT18 but if I’m going to carry a square head might as well carry a slab light, the size difference isn’t much.

I also really like the DT8 and love the small size. I don’t need long runtime for most of my use. I’m actually considering getting the 18350 tube.

As far as sustaining a high output longer then other lights?. IDK. I’m going to have to recheck my thermal settings as my XPL HI 5000k version gets hot pretty quickly on higher outputs. I guess it depends on what the fairly high output is.

I have some runtime graphs in my review of the DT8 SST-20 5000k (link in my signature). The best level for sustained brightness was step 5/7 which in test conditions managed 1000lm or more. This was after the sensor was re-calibrated and max temp set to 55C. In real world use and lower ambient temperatures it could thermo-regulate higher than this, with of course a shorter runtime!

Of course it gets hot, no way around that.
But it can sustain a fair amount of light for a long time, without overheating.
Noticeably more light for a longer time than for example the D4v2.
Less load on each LED and having them spread out probably helps.
The heatsink also dissipates heat better.

I have a 4000k xpl hi DT8. I really love the size and shape of the light. It has replaced my D4V2 as my go to light. I would buy a 21700 version for sure, but the 18650 is fine for my needs.

I’d love either a side-by-side 18650 or a single 21700 configuration. I feel like either one would fill a niche similar to a Lumintop FW21 Pro: not necessarily the most compact EDC light, but one of the brightest things on the market that’s still pocketable.

The single 18650 is the deal blower for me. This is a dual quad light. The the 18650 is way under powered for this application.

Underpowered? It has better max and sustained brightness performance than many soda can sized lights. However the runtime is resultingly poor.

This light needs a Tesla 4680 cell ;).

That’s what I meant. It has 750hp but only a quart of gas.

Wouldn’t that be more like a soda-can light? Pretty much negate all the advantages of ultra-compactness that the DT8 is famed for.

I had not thought of the DT8 as ultra compact, heh. Maybe you are right though. I haven’t used one yet.

You should get one, it’s the best EDC on the market.
Just a little bit more runtime would be nice.
I’m still in favor of dual 18650 side by side, to keep it pocketable in normal trousers.

Interesting. I have a D4v2 on order and am not really a lumen junkie any more, but maybe someday.

buy a soda can light?

Why not make an adapter in between so 2 battery tubes can be screwed on the existing head?
