Fenix PD32 v2.0 hypothetical mod

The PD32v2 achieves 400m of throw which is pretty impressive, using an Osram LED.

If it were easy to break the head open and replace the emitter, what would you put in it in order to keep as much of the throw as possible but warm the tint a bit, say 5000k? Cree XPL-HI?

If I bought that light in the first place, it would be for the Osram led and high throw. If I wanted a different led I’d buy a different light that had the led I wanted. The question seems a bit odd. The PD32 is a nice light, but is there anything special about it that makes a led swap worthwhile?

Don’t know that’s partly why I asked XD When I bought it I was still a bit of a noob and didn’t really understand colour tints. After using Fenix lights for a while I’ve started seeing how the cold temperature makes everything look artificially white and so now I’ve started looking at warmer tints and high CRI options. I assumed that part of the PD32’s ability to throw is with its reflector, so was wondering if another emitter swapped in there would work without reducing throw too much. Also it’s a very nice host in general, Fenix make high quality stuff, I just wish they’d add some other emitter options.

Nothing will match the throw really. Cree XP-P would probably have more cd/lm but lower max output meaning reduced total throw. SFT-40 would throw as far and have a bit more output, but are only available in 6500K right now (might change in the future).

You’d probably be better off putting in a Zircon filter. Maybe 15-20% output loss but a few hundred K lower CCT. I have one in a C8 w/CSLPM1 and the loss in output really is hardly noticeable even when moving the filter in/out of the beam.

Don’t mean to have the contradictory opinion but the PD32v2 is perfect the way it is. Incredible light for $60.
