New Sofirn TIR thrower: IF22A SFT40 2100lm 629m

Thanks for setting me straight you two! I guess I remembered the part where djozz said, “Luminus SFT40 is like the dedomed version of the SST40” but not all the rest. :stuck_out_tongue:

We never stop to learn!
That’s why I’m so interested in a thrower with the sft 40, it might be quite effective for its output, making it last a couple of hours but still with good throw, and with this TIR, it seems the “bleed” gives quite a good light outside the focused beam.

haha, thanks for reading my rant! i apologize, i just have been very excited abut this LED since getting them in, i have put them in about 8-10 lights. It is just such a solid performer and exciting that it is 3volts, now with the word of 5000k, it really just completes the "line" for this LED. It will be really hard to beat this one once it has a 5000k options, except for the fact that it may be pretty hard to get. if the last 2 months have shown us anything with them only being in stock for a week or two.

IF22A/IF22 restock , order now with discount price and could use code :5XD4VLM0HKFP

So if22 the reflector version probably a little more throw and much more spill right?

Much more uncontrolled spill. So reflector only gives a beam and a circle outside the beam, the tir kind of gives a smooth diffusion from the beam and out to make a decent near light plus a decent thrower. In this case it seems. Tir can be made in many different options.

I highly recommend you our new released flashlight Sofirn IF22A

This one generally meets all your needs

You won't regret after buying it.

We are stick to IF22A TIR optic version first. Because according to our latest test results, IF22A even throws longer than IF22.

So the tir version is better at dual purpose than the reflector version?

Seems like it from the few beamshots out there. Have not got mine yet but looking forward to test it out!

According to the latest test results, IF22A throw a little further. I don’t know why the previous results are different.

I think they are not much different. But if you pay attention to the beam, IF22A with TIR optic gives a beam more like thrower

Gotta say just received this IF22A and it is a Beast!

Already have the Manker BLF MC13 and was not sure if this Sofirn would be more of the same or better as the head size and TIR appear to be the same.
However with the Sofirn you are getting the new SFT40 and it casts a way bigger badder beam as well as the flashlight shedding heat very well.
With the increased battery size runtimes will be better as well.

Anyway, really like the very compact size, it just glides into side pocket with nothing sharp edged.
Can’t wait to show it off to some friends that I’ll be visiting out of town on Monday night, she’s a keeper and a winner.

Later,
Keith

Just need to bypass the rear spring for an extra 2-300 lumens

Agreed … I am very pleased with my new IF22A.

Super light in all aspects.

I just took some #'s on the IF22A and got:

  • on a 40T1 (old rev, better) at 4.18V: 9.0 amps w/tailcap removed
  • lumens: 1730 at start, 1740 at 10s, 1680 at 30s
  • throw: 113 kcd (772 meters)

The initial rise in amps is interesting. I've only seen this with higher resistance springs, but I seen the rise with a jumper on the batt- to tube, so eliminating the one spring in the tail. There must be something else in the circuit that reduces resistance as it heats up initially, and confirmed a bypass on the tail spring will boost amps, boosting lumens and kcd.

The lens appears to be uncoated, so it may be possible to get a 5% or so bump by replacing it with a double coated AR. I say "may be" because it's hard to judge the quality of the glass used.

Lens size: 23.5 mm x 1.94 mm

MCPCB size: 23.5 mm

Depending on the type of TIR, a glass lens can really ding the overall efficiency of the optics.

I wonder if the rise in current is from the emitter heating up and Vf dropping. That’s usually not accompanied by rising output, but i suppose the change is subtle enough to be explained that way

Do you have an EA01 with sst40 to compare optics and throw values? Or FF E01?

Thanks for reporting Tom. I put some DC fix on mine for G&S. Not bad. Running it on high seems not to overheat. Plenty of flood with a little throw.

Well, I got a FF E01 w/SST-40 (not an EA01), but the TIR optic is different - you can see the LED, but the other differences like the smaller width optic in the E01, and SST-40 vs. SFT-40 has big differences in throw.
