When I started to type my post, there were no other replies yet. So, I will clarify: This topic hit a major raw nerve, it was not any of the posts that hit a major raw nerve.

"Police have “... ...and we don’t know what provoked the dogs to attack," Amaral said."
What a decorticate, decerebrate statement to make!
What provoked the dogs to attack? How about that they are predatory animals with a strong prey drive, that were specifically bred to kill, unprovoked. And they located their perfect victims, that is, unarmed victims. How about that for the obvious answer to such a ridiculous question.
There are only two reasons why more than a few million Americans get bitten by dogs every year. Because two of the following applied at the same time: a) They were within reasonable proximity to a canine animal, and b) Because the person was not covered by a self-defensive firearm.
In the USA, one percent of all dog bites are immediately terminated with a self-defensive firearm. For every seven million Americans that get attack bit annually, 70,000 attacking dogs are shot annually.
Question: If next year, there were a one percent reduction of successful attack bites, that is, only 98% of all dog attack bites actually occurred, because two percent of the immediately attacking dogs were shot, would that be better or worse than last year?
Both kinds, criminally negligent and criminally willful at-large dog offenders prefer Unarmed victims. Don't cave in to them! Don't be unarmed!
