Convoy driver problem

Hi guys I have another Convoy 7135 2.8a driver that is only working on 100%. I soldered 2 380mv 7135 chips on for a total of 10 chips. I put it in a Kaidomain p6 drop in to replave the bd39 driver it had. The soldering went well and was my best job to date I thought. The same thing happened to me last month while adding 2 chips. What gives with these older style 2.8 7135s? Ive soldered many other types of driver with no issues.

Check for shorts against the reflector?

Probably any contact with the solder from the chips and the pill or something. I would not focus on the reflector but on the driver/ spring/chips.
I had the same issue once, but I never tried to resolve it (the light works well with only one mode).

Ive never tried anything other than inspecting my joints to make sure they weren't contacting something they shouldnt. The first light i wanted 1 mode anyways but this new one i want the 4 different brightness modes. The drop in has an XM-L2 which mounted in a KDlitker E6 host. It gets very warm quickly!

If the light has only one mode (“Turbo”) the cause is probably a short with the body. This can occur with any part of the driver that is in direct contact with the black lead to the emitter(s).

Thanks so much everyone I found the problem with your help! The reflector is touching one of the leads to the LED. As soon as I removed the reflector the mode groups worked, now to fix my soldering job... They really don't leave much room for anything inside a flashlight.

Glad you made it
After all, my thought about the soldering was wrong!
Hope you enjoy the light now !

You could also try some Kapton tape.
