  • Output Levels and runtime

Difference

  • Type of optic:IF22: aluminum alloy reflector, IF22A: 5° TIR plastic lens

the main difference is the lens. IF22A is TIR lens to get 697 meters throwing distance while the IF22 is smooth reflector to get 683meters throwing distance

  • Size: IF22 is a little longer than IF22A

Dimension: IF22: 136.7 mm (length) × 42 mm (head diameter), IF22A: 127.1 mm (length) × 42 mm (head diameter)

Weight: IF22: 132 grams (without battery), IF22A: 120 grams (without battery)

The latest TIR lens get longer throwing distance than IF22, the beam shot pictures will be updated as long as I take the pictures. If anyone can shares the beam shot picture, i would appreciate a lot :-)

Here are beam shot pictures

IF22(Left) the hotspot is smaller, but the peripheral aperture is included, the illumination range is larger
IF22A (Right) the hotspot is larger, and there is almost no peripheral spot

Thanks for the breakdown, Barry. Must be an optical illusion, but the head diameter appears smaller on the IF22A in your side by side shot, although your spec says both are 42mm. I’m preferring the beam profile from the TIR optic based on that wall shot.

Would really like to see some high quality outdoor comparison shots, especially at distance (100m+).

Releasing two versions of the same light with different optics is interesting, but also hard to decide which one to choose. I would make a review and comparison, but don’t have the lights.

From the design and beamshots I think I would prefer the IF22A with TIR.

I agree. I’m actually surprised as the results as I expected the reflector to make for a tighter hotspot and longer throw. Pretty amazing what a good quality TIR can do, and with less space required.

Would like the TIR one too but with these led’s I’ll wait until the 5000K SFT-40’s become available.

SFT40 is quite new, I don’t know when 5000K will be available. If 5000K comes out, sofirn can get it first.

Thanks Barry!

yep, I will fine sometime to take outdoor comparison beam shots pictures.

Looks like the reflector height might not be properly adjusted

I like the look of the IF22A :+1:

Is Turbo limited to 6A?

Does the IF22A have a glass lens, to protect the (soft PMA?) TIR?

Thanks Sofirn for making this excellent light! Just received my IF22A a few days ago and it’s my new favorite, Sofirn hit it out of the park with this!

For me this light put FUN back into flashlights, although I don’t have any other lights that create a “light sabre”effect… plus this just puts out a lot of light overall, so it’s somewhat useful all around, love the low profile head, the light feels great in the hand and it’s an awesome feeling to have this range and power in a small light!

I’m curious now about the reflector head version, also wondering about a wider TIR optic for the 22A, I prefer the shorter head with the knurling.

The only thing I would have changed on this: Put knurling on the tail cap!

Looks like I will order one of each for comparison. Takes 2-4 weeks to arrive, though. Still wondering with which lights I should compare them. C8+ XP-L HI? KR1 W2? FC12?

How about a D80v2 SST40?

It can be higher if you use HD battery. More powerful battery, more powerful IF22A

Yep

I am looking forward to your comparison review

I’d like to know what the thermal management is with it. I’m pretty impressed with my SC31 Pro in that with its calibration it will put out an amazing amount of light for a long time before the TM starts to cut it down. Granted I do live at the 45th parallel and haven’t actually done that in the warmer weather;-) In any case it is nice to have a light that will hold the lumen without having it get unbearable to hold. The larger body ought to help as well. From my perspective it feels like the TM makes the tube light handle like a bigger light and I wonder what the TM is doing for this bigger light.
