Wrist watches. Post pics, if you EDC one!

My friend just ordered several NATO and Zulu straps (with adapters). When will it end?

Those are gorgeous G-Shock watches—congrats! I was buying in the sub $250 range… and then, CASIO went nuts. All of these top shelf all metal models priced over $500. For that money, given how there’s no real step up in the movement features, the design would have to really speak to me. The deal breaker for me is, they MUST fix this anemic alarm problem. It’s just maddening how faint they are.

I received this watch today.

It's a Casio GD-350-8.

I have a similar GD-350 with slightly different colors.

The watch I received today will be my backup in case my other watch quits functioning.

The GD-350 watches have been discontinued.

They're still available for purchase, but that won't always be the case.

I got mine off of eBay brand new for $49.39 plus tax.

This watch typically costs $84 brand new, so I got a pretty good deal.

I think I am done buying watches unless Casio comes out with something better (that I can afford.)

Once I got my new G-Shocks, I had to try some after-market bands - for a little custom bling.

A couple of 5610 twins.

(right) GWM5610BA-1JF (with Jays & Kays adapter and NATO G10 strap)

Yep, I put stainless steel mesh bands on all of my watches that I plan to wear.

no, i don;t have one but sort of wish i did…

Yes, very decent deal. The positive module GD-350 I posted about earlier was a used watch buy. Guy barely wore it. Still had the tag for it too, but not the box. Got it for $40 shipped. I’ve not kept tabs on G-Shock watches for a few years now. That’s sad they discontinued the GD-350. Excellent watch. I have the very first release that has the label “VIBRATOR” instead of “VIBE ALARM.” In G-Shock collecting lore, I imagine that it’ll likely fetch a nice resale price in the coming years. I remember reading about one guy who bought like 6 of them, after CASIO decided to change to “VIBE ALARM.” We all thought he was a bit nuts. Context and timing is everything.

My GD350-1 was an even better deal.

It was $35 with no tax, for "like new."

It looked brand new to me.

Got one used, bulletproof.

Hello guys. I’ve bought 2 vintage watches with defective handwinding movements, one one with a beat up case.

All I really like is the dials. Can anybody point me where I could get aftermarket cases or find out what watch could fit the dials? Quartz would be ok, even though I prefer mechanical, at least for the male version.

If I measure the watch dial with a caliper, what then? I’ve repaired a quartz with the help of youtube and my watch set, so I guess I could do it

that will be moderately hard

yes measure outside diameter of the dial, that is the only important thing
then you have to find the right watch
try existing watches
used
broken
except no one measures or specs dial size

if it is 1mm off it will look bad or not fit

Thank you. I thought smth like that as I’ve only found replacement parts for specific watches, not sizes.
Maybe I better write to the guy on youtube who showed (me) how to replace a coil on a quartz movement.
It would be cool though to have two watches for me and my wife with our family’s name, not many people can tell that :stuck_out_tongue:
On the small one the crown falls out, asaik the only right thing to do is to get a new movement, on that one quartz wouldn’t matter (women usually don’t care).

==finding a movement to exactly fit a case will also be hard
there will be no specs
many things to fit and measure
good luck

Thank you.Maybe I just ask the watchmaker, my Seiko 5 SNK809 needs a service, too

there are really not a lot of standards in watches

some movements are standard—the expensive ones

but yours is probably old and cheap and not standard

watchmaker would know

might have something he could just slap your dials in for $100 or so

Invicta Men’s 8926OB Pro Diver
Casio Men’s MDV106-1AV

During the last 18months of COVID shutdown I ordered way too many things online including the Invicta last year - I always an automatic - and the Casio earlier this year. The time difference between the two tells the Invicta story - it loses a minute or so every week.

I didn’t wear a watch a lot the last 20 years but thought the Invicta looked ok for a budget. I read online that friends don’t let friends buy Invicta but I’ve received only compliment on it IRL  The Casio is for backup and my son borrows it sometimes for occasions when it would be rude to pull out a phone to check time.

Slightly off topic, I feel like people don’t notice when you sneak a quick peak at a wrist watch these days whereas you get looks if you glance at your phone. Anyone other watch wearers find similar? Do people still tap their wrist when they ask you for the time?

1 Thank

Not sure how it is in your country, but over here I was taught (some decades ago) that if a guy does that to another guy (“Do you have the time?”), he’s propositioning for an encounter. Not sure if the practice is still the same nowadays though; it’s been a long time since I’ve been asked.

love those casios
the MOST watch for the money! ever!

There is something to it, yeah. Although, when people look at their phones, you don’t know if it’s to check time or to check some notifications/alerts.

But yeah, I much prefer looking at my wrist than pulling the phone out of my pocket to check time.

I honestly can’t remember the last time someone has asked me for the time.

Are you takin the piss??!? Never heard of that living in Europe and Australia. Think of all the lost opportunities if I was that way inclined.

I can’t remember either but that’s more ’cause of many, many COVID lockdown days in Melbourne. Also maybe I’m not ridiculously good looking, see above.
