Thanks for the breakdown, Barry. Must be an optical illusion, but the head diameter appears smaller on the IF22A in your side by side shot, although your spec says both are 42mm. I’m preferring the beam profile from the TIR optic based on that wall shot.
Would really like to see some high quality outdoor comparison shots, especially at distance (100m+).
Releasing two versions of the same light with different optics is interesting, but also hard to decide which one to choose. I would make a review and comparison, but don’t have the lights.
From the design and beamshots I think I would prefer the IF22A with TIR.
I agree. I’m actually surprised as the results as I expected the reflector to make for a tighter hotspot and longer throw. Pretty amazing what a good quality TIR can do, and with less space required.
Thanks Sofirn for making this excellent light! Just received my IF22A a few days ago and it’s my new favorite, Sofirn hit it out of the park with this!
For me this light put FUN back into flashlights, although I don’t have any other lights that create a “light sabre”effect… plus this just puts out a lot of light overall, so it’s somewhat useful all around, love the low profile head, the light feels great in the hand and it’s an awesome feeling to have this range and power in a small light!
I’m curious now about the reflector head version, also wondering about a wider TIR optic for the 22A, I prefer the shorter head with the knurling.
The only thing I would have changed on this: Put knurling on the tail cap!
Looks like I will order one of each for comparison. Takes 2-4 weeks to arrive, though. Still wondering with which lights I should compare them. C8+ XP-L HI? KR1 W2? FC12?
I’d like to know what the thermal management is with it. I’m pretty impressed with my SC31 Pro in that with its calibration it will put out an amazing amount of light for a long time before the TM starts to cut it down. Granted I do live at the 45th parallel and haven’t actually done that in the warmer weather;-) In any case it is nice to have a light that will hold the lumen without having it get unbearable to hold. The larger body ought to help as well. From my perspective it feels like the TM makes the tube light handle like a bigger light and I wonder what the TM is doing for this bigger light.
I ordered the IF22 and IF22A, which arrived today.
But neither of the 2 packages include any manual at all.
I know it’s possible to “guess” how the IF22 and IF22A operation works, since I’m familiar with other Sofirn flashlights.
However, it’s still good if there is some documentation? Maybe there is a soft copy of the manual for IF22 and IF22A somewhere?
I’ll try to get some beamshots when the weather becomes better here in our country.
I went out to make the video after my baby son fell asleep. The beam is so bright that the security guards came to ask what's going on right after I finished the short video. I apologized and went home. Hope I didnt disturb neighbors.
Sorry for the broken English...... Hope this video is helpful.
