barred owls.

RS has gotten a lot of heat for recycling the same old classic rock bands on list after list. Hey, those old folks deserve credit, for sure, but Blender Magazine shot back in 2005 with its list of The 500 Greatest Songs Since You Were Born! (1980-2005). It's a nice change of pace, especially for people who know that great music appears in every decade, and also that the majority of pop music in any era is disposable.

Still, the question remains, Where's Dave?

Al Di Meola • Paco de Lucía – "Mediterranean Sundance / Río Ancho" (live, 1980)

Live at The Warfield, San Francisco, Saturday, December 6, 1980

It's okay, Dave. A lot of my favorite music never appears on any list!

And that includes great stuff like this acoustic workout with guitar virtuosos Al Di Meola and Paco de Lucía. This video was recorded on Saturday night, at the second of two concerts featuring Paco and Al together with John McLaughlin.

A recording of the previous evening's show was released on an LP entitled Friday Night in San Francisco.
