Cellular Unlimited Data Plan With Reduced Speeds Feedback

So this is for users with the unlimited data plan that switches to reduced speeds after you use up your monthly data.

From Rogers site..."Once you have reached the high-speed data allotment of your plan, you will continue to have access to data services with no overage beyond the high-speed data allotment at a reduced speed of up to 512 kilobits per second (for both upload and download) until the end of your current billing cycle."

I am curious as I have don't have Unlimited Data Plan but just a normal Data Plan with set data allowed each month. At the cellular forums, users complain that browsing and videos load really slow or not at all. They complain that texting speeds and email speeds are just okay or some say slow also.

So for people with this type of plan, do you find that web pages and Youtube videos load really really slow or not at all? Is it unbearably slow when browsing web pages when you switched to the reduced speeds? Hows email and texting?

It’s been like this for years. No carrier is going to be okay with excessive use of videos and netsurfing and loading high-graphics pages since they are taking up bandwidth from their neighbor and not getting on a wifi network. They just count on most users not using enough data to notice the throttle-down.

Yeah no I understand about the excessive use from everyone after throttle down but man, 512 kilobits?? :open_mouth: That’s like a dial-up modem from the 70’s time! :rage: I mean at least up the speeds to a decent level where d/l and u/l can function at a decent clip. I think my friend was saying might as well not even bother with surfing and you can forget videos! :frowning: Great if you’re into texting all the time though. :money_mouth_face:

We pay a fortune for satellite internet.

After our monthly 40GB, they frequently slow our internet down to way below 512 kilobits per second.

I mean, it's so slow that I can't even surf the web.

...

If I can't surf the web, you're not really an internet service provider.

We pay $90 for a "month" of internet, but we don't get anything near a month.

512kbit is pretty good. Dialup never went above 56kbit. The usual 2g slowdown is to 128kbit, I thought.

Yeah no, I feel your pain hombre! Hehe, not that I know but it’s like coming off opium or something. Yeah, woohoo your all hunky-dory and up up and away and then all of a sudden the s* hits the fan!

Well, at least it's better than nothing I guess. I have a feeling someone's gonna come up with a system like the good old High Gain Yagi Antenna days. :)) Kinda like "Okay let's see which neighbor to point the antenna to today! :D O:)

That’s pretty awful. We use more than 40GB per day (unlimited data plan) and we couldn’t survive on a plan like yours.

Except in the old days we didn’t have the the high speed data needs we do now.

How do you use 40GB in one day on mobile?!! That’s 24 hour a day video download, more or less.
