Convoy M21B: Who else loves their M21B?

I’ve been using my Convoy M21B for nearly a month now and I just love it. It’s almost everything I wished for in a flashlight. I selected a M21B that features a XHP 50.2 emitter (orange peel reflector). The color temperature is 3000K, so it’s very cozy. The maximum ampere on 100 % is 5A.
I selected option 10 of the 12 mode driver, i.e. 1 , 10, 35 , 100. It’s just great.
100 % get’s hot after a while, but not too hot to touch - it’s absolutely usable. 100 % of 5A is still very bright . It satisfies all my needs.
35 % doesn’t even get hot, it’s just a little bit warm and still absoluety bright enough for all my needs. Even the 10 % mode is bright enough to check out what’s going on in the garden or to take a walk in the forest when you like some goose bumps.

The overall build quality looks pretty good to me.
To make the M21B even better, it should feature an USB-C charging port and a real low voltage protection (it only has a low voltage warning). The missing LVP is no big deal for me because I use protected batteries anyway. To make it even better, it would be nice if the flashlight would have a pressure relief valve like some premium brand products have - I would just feel more comfortable and safe with regards to a possible malfunction of the battery, i.e. a battery venting gas.

Questions:
Is a M21B GT FC40 (orange peel) floodier than a M21B XHP 50.2 (orange peel)?
Does the GT FC40 heat up faster than a XHP 50.2?

The flood/throw ratio of my M21B XHP 50.2 is just perfect for me. I also like the color temperature of 3000K. But I’m interested in the “high CRI” feature of the GT FC40. There’s a 3000K version of the GT FC40 available.

I like M21B, but I prefer S16. S16 host feels more refined.

I waiting to receive my M21B FC40. XHP50.2 have better efficiency but it is ugly also I think it is floodier compared to FC40. Now I have M21C FC40 4500K and really like that LED. 3000K are to warm for me. Also 12- mode driver have LVP around 2.8V. In my M21C it is work very well. When the battery is near end its flash several times and just turn off before fully discharging the battery. For all of my flashlights USB-c port it is not needed. I preffer M21B to have better waterprofness without it. Most of time I used external charger anyway.

What is the spill beam angle on the M21B?

Today I received my M21B GT FC40 5000-5500K. Great little flashlight. I compared it to my Sofirn SP33 v2 with 6V XHP50.2 diode the same as in M21B XHP variant. The beams of these flashlights are very similar. I think the size of reflectors are similar. Also I compared it to M21C 4500K variant of FC40. The beam of M21C is more concentrated with good spot. M21B is floodier.
They used the same driver. 5500K variant is more powerful maybe around 100-200lumens compared to 4500K. Also I measured input current of M21B with FC40. At 35% it is about 3A, at 100% it is 9.6A, on turbo SP33 current is about 6A. Also I measured current of Sofirn SP33. It is about 2A for the fimilar amount of light compared to FC40 with 3A. Keep in mind that are measurements of input current of LED driver not the exactly diode.

I have the M21B and S11, both with the FC40. I love them both, both are very floody and very similar beams. I got the S11 first as it was the first light Simon sold with that LED. I find that it has issues on the highest mode and sometimes the next to highest. As far as I can tell, it is the 26650 not keeping up with the current draw. No, I have not checked the draw yet. But with a 30Q in and adapter tube, the problem goes away. Have never had a similar problem with the 21700 light.

So, which version of the M21B is floodier, the XHP 50.2 or the GT FC40?

Wow, that is a lot. Doesn’t the flashlight heat up way too fast regarding such high ampere rates?

I love my M21B. My version is with the Osram CULPM1.TG. It has a very throwy beam and really reaches out there. The hot spot is smaller than all of my other lights but is still very manageable with just the right amount of spill/flood. It’s one of my favorites.

So, my problem was a driver failure. Simon sent one after I told him the symptoms. It runs a little cooler now also, so I assume that something in the high power stage went bad.
