As a Flashaholic, what collectible(s) do you have trouble understanding?

Plenty of people probably think we’re nuts for buying more than one flashlight for fun. What commonly collected items are difficult for you to fathom?

For me it is Funko Pops.

1. They lack detail. You might have trouble identifying many of them without a label.
2. They are mass produced plastic. Their intrinsic value is probably less than $1. Their worth is unlikely to increase.
3. They aren’t good toys. They aren’t cuddly, they have no limb articulation. The official website warns they may be a choking hazard.

In my opinion, there are plenty of better ways to show how much you love a franchise. T-shirts, posters, and plushies are all superior.

Ultimately what’s important is that you enjoy yourself collecting; if you like your Funko Pops I don’t hate you. I just don’t get it.

What collectible do you have trouble understanding?

I don't collect cars, because they take up too much space to store. I don't collect jewelry, because it is a robbery risk. Postage stamps are too small. I don't collect clothing or footwear. I don't collect knives, because they are too short range. I like coins, guns, classic rock albums and flashlights.

Fancy edc lanyards on everything.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UyCzZH_hFlA  But in all seriousness, I consider my knives to be tools so range doesn’t come into it. I have a coin collection but haven’t added to it in a long while. I am only up to 5 firearms (vs 13 flashlights) because I am picky and can’t afford to feed my pickiness in that area on a regular basis.

Isn’t everything a robbery risk? How would they know you have jewelry unless they are in your house already?

Yea I don’t really get the lanyard thing either. Lanyards on something you are worried about dropping make sense. Lanyards on a dinky pocket knife or light?

I don't use lanyards on anything I own.

The item might have a lanyard, but I don't use the lanyard.

Used woman underwear… Hard to understand, but plenty of collectors worldwide.

Huh, I know some people buy them but it never occurred to me that they might have a collection…with displays…categories…

Wow :confounded:

Yea, that’s an odd one. Imagine having potentially 100s or 1000s of dollars invested in used underwear! :person_facepalming:

NFT

1. any Brand Name Only collectible: Disney, FIFA, Weatherby, etc.
2. License Plates. https://www.alpca.org/
3. Butterflies.

of course, i understand the buy/sell/trade “money-making” part.
i just do not “get” the acquire and keep part of it.

I only collect certain flashlights , mostly throwers that can be modded.
.
Don’t understand the interest in fidget spinners, and I could make a good one.
.
My wife makes quilts for fun, but collects a lot of fabric of only certain types.
.
I love tools and probably have too many, but yrs ago I couldn’t afford many so deprivation made that happen.
.
Had plenty of guns when younger before children came along but got rid of all but 2 antiques rifles for their safety, never restocked. Although now need a handgun.
.

Rocks and purses.

My youngest son (19) is into rocks. Every time we go to a new city we have to check out the local rock store and of course he buys some more rocks. He’s got rocks on the floor of his bedroom, on his dresser, on his window sill, on the deck, in the playhouse, on the dining table, etc. They’re everywhere! And he has a rock tumbler in the garage that is constantly running.

But he likes it when I use my flashlights to shine on them to see all the colors. And he uses the UV S2+ for some of the rocks that glow.

My wife likes purses. For me, it seems 2 or 3 should be enough, but she has plenty more than that. And some just sit in the closet, never used, stored in cloth bags.

BUT, if they were asked the same question, I’m sure my flashlights would be the first on their lists!!!

Those things can be worth money! My wife has a cuple nicer ones in cloth bags too lol. Not a bunch.

I dont get the Lanyard thing. Most other things i can understand because of the investment and increasing value. Lanyards dont increase in value unless they're made with precious metals on them.

I like pocket clips more than any person should= modifying, trying to fabricate, alter, everything. I am sure some people would find that horribly pointless. i dont :))

Wives. One is enough. Two maybe. Three and you’re crazy.

I have a collection of leather and suede shoes.

Most guys don't collect shoes, but I have way more than I need.

It's weird, too, because when I wear shoes, it's always either one pair or the other pair of shoes (my two favorites.)

I collect coffee bean (colourful paper) bags. I find them fascinating and I would seldom throw them away. They don’t worth anything. Purely for collection! But my wife suspects it is an early sign of old-age “hoarding” :disappointed:

In the distant past, when I travelled, one of the things I bought in a foreign country would be the local coffee beans in colourful (paper) bags.

Now overseas travelling is difficulty and costly (too many COVID tests required), I can just browse on the Internet and admire those colourful bags of coffee beans from different countries around the world. I can still order some online.

That’s a fettish not a collection.

That sounds interesting. Are you able to post a pic of your collection?

Yes, you are correct. But show and tell. People who have jewelry are a target. Maybe just an excuse.

Debt.

I know too many people that think collecting more and more debt will make their loves better.
