Sofirn IF22A Review by Chinese Flashaholic (Translation)

Luminus SFT-40 as a popular LED bead, many flashlight brands roll out new products equipped with it. Sofirn have released a mini flashlight FC12 adopted SFT-40 LED with some throw and flood light, this product received a good response. So Sofirn released mid-head(EDC) thrower IF22 and IF22A at the same time as follow. The two differences of IF22 and IF22A are reflector and beam shot distance, rest of them is nearly the same. I bought a IF22A with TIR. I have been using it for half a month. I would love to share my experience about IF22A

The Sofirn IF22A comes in a generic brown box printed with an eye-catching logo “Sofirn”

Inside the box, it includes a Sofirn IF22A flashlight, 2 * O-rings, a two-way clip (mounted), a lanyard, a 18650 battery barrel and a USB-C cable. You can choose the variant with or without battery when purchase it. The price is fantastic!

The F22A is about 120 grams in weight and 128mm in length (IF22 is a bit longer than this one). and its head diameter is 42mm. It is made of hard-anodized aluminium. Anti-abrasive finish delivers a good hand feel. Two-way clip enables you to attach the flashlight in your pocket. There is a rhomboidal knurling and a “HOT” warning sign on the head of the light

There is a switch on the side, one click to turn on, hold and press to select modes. IF22A has five modes: Turbo/High/Medium/Low/Eco(Moonlight 1lm) (Ramping mode is also available) The max output of Turbo is 2100lm. (Intensity 108625cd) IF22A goes 697m. (its beam shot distance is a bit further than IF22 )

Side switch is surrounded by a silver ring, which embellishes the monotonous black flashlight. There is a LED indicator in the centre showing the power status

Solid Green: remaining battery power is good.

Solid Red : remaining battery power is poor (less than 30%).

Flashing Red: critical power, replace or recharge battery as soon as possible.

The charging port is the same as FC12--type-C charging port. The included USB-C cable not only can charge flashlight but your phone. There is no need to bring another cable to recharge your flashlight when you’re out. It features a thick rubber stopper on it, which makes it has excellent airtightness, and dust-proof, water-proof and pressure-free.

IF22A has a cooling fin in head delivering a good heat dissipation effect

Body Close up: IF22A is rated IPX8 waterproof and can operate normally up to 2 meter underwater. It also works well in rainy days!

The head and tailcap of the body can be reversed as the threads are identical on both sides, allowing you to reverse them without moving it.

Two-way Clip: It can be clipped to anywhere. The pictures are put on below.

There is a lanyard hole in tail cap.

There are signs for anode side (+) and negative side (-), which is friendly to noob. The grooves on the tail cap help to unscrew the tail cap for convenient battery replacement.

Inside the flashlight head is a copper column that can conduct electricity. there is a spring in the tailcap. Tip/flat-head batteries with a length of 70-72.5mm are available.

Close up of flashlight head: IF22A adopts Luminus SFT-40 LED with 5° TIR plastic lens and toughened mineral glass lens. Beam shot can reach 697m. Unlike common smooth reflector, Material and production process of TIR lens are special. Its surface has a obvious hole, which is not defective, and will not affect the waterproof and performance of the flashlight.

TIR Close up: Different from IF22 which adopted smooth reflector, the IF22A utilizes 5° TIR plastic lens . IF22A has tighter hotspot and longer throw. There is hardly no spill to distract you when you point at something.

The building is 200m from me. When I turned on Turbo, it lighted up the building. Here are comparison pictures of ON and OFF

Although affected by weather (it was rainy when taking pictures), IF22A did a great performance as a thrower. The beam shot distance 697m is not imaginary!

Conclusion: Sofirn IF22A has a very good long-range narrow beam pattern. it is small making it convenient for everyday carry. The appearance is simple but eye-pleasing. A throw flashlight with little spill. I would say IF22A is a budget flashlight, good quality and fancy price.

How do you think about the review? How do you like the beamshot pictures? Is there anything else you want to know?

It’s a nice hands-on review. :+1:

I liked your side-by-side comparison of the IF22A and IF22 on YouTube:

I’m looking forward to some more reviews that include runtime testing.

Does the IF22A charge with a USB-C to USB-C cable using a USB-C PD power supply like the IF25A?

Thanks for the translation, it’s interesting. I hope there will be more.

A time - brightness Diagramm, driver type, whitewall shots, beam characteristics, standby drain. Congrats to this nice pocket thrower  .

yes, but only accept 5V

I think that we must learn Mandarin.

Nice! Thanks for sharing and the translation.

very good review with very good photos
i will buy the Sofirn lamp because of the positive review thanks you!

Will the IF22A operate while plugged in and the battery tube removed?

I doubt it would, since there is no closed loop. But I am not sure. My IF22A will probably arrive tomorrow.

Yes, it works without battery while you plug in a USB-A to USB-C cable. But in that way, only low lumen light is available.

If I have a chance to become a teacher, then I will be your Mandarin teacher.

There needs more reviews about IF22A! BTW, you can check this thread. it includes whitewall shots, and beamshot videos.

CILCK TO CHECK

Glad that you like Sofirn lamps

Is on my TODO list, just waiting for arrival.

Interesting. So in a way, you could get one of these as a rather expensive night light.

Barry, I take it you’re a big fan of Bruce Lee?

Yes, I am a big fan of Bruce Lee. But I don't know Kungfu

There was a poll of Americans asking them to name a famous Asian person.

Most Americans couldn't name one, but the top two famous Asian people that were mentioned were Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan.

The fact that most Americans couldn't name one famous Asian person is pretty sad.

I got mine about 5 minutes ago. Yes it does light up with charging cable in place and battery tube removed. That is interesting!
Very happy with it so far. Feels great in my hand.
