[CLOSED - went with 21700 tube] POLL - Which batteries should the mini-LT be designed to use?

If 21700 is supported, tube should be long enough for protected cell, not just unprotected. A spacer can be supplied if necessary for unprotected.

Against 26500, makes the light bigger unnecessarily.

Not impressed by proposal of a 3AAA holder to fit in 26650 tube. Use duel fuel driver instead (like SP10 Pro) to support 1.2-1.8 volt 1AA in 18500/18650 tube, as mentioned in other thread.

I voted "18650 only", but I would be okay with "18650 and 21700."

If "18650 and 21700" is chosen, I would prefer support for just unprotected 21700 cells.

Protected 21700 cells are expensive, and not that great in comparison to unprotected 21700 cells.

Thanks for making this poll!

thank you for making the poll!

Ideally, I’d like to see a “half LT1” light which is basically just the top half of the LT1. It’d have a single 18650 or maybe 21700 battery in the center, surrounded by a big diffuser. It would effectively be all “bulb” with no “tube” section.

For the LT1M’s current design, it seems like a 26650 cell would make the most sense because it’s wide. I don’t really understand using a long thin design for a lantern, with only a small emitter section, because it’s not much different than a regular flashlight with a diffuser cap.

The tall thin style does have one big thing going for it though — a built in riser. It elevates the emitter section higher, which is usually beneficial.

Very interesting idea. Something kind of like this?

I just experimented with a few emitter positions. Not intending for that many. But I could see some sort of staggered array of emitters along the center core. Of course, will have to be wide enough and with sufficient insulation to help shield the battery from heat exposure.

Why not get rid of the battery completely, and just run from a USB wall adapter or power bank?

Interested in 1 of LT1S Stout.

There is no reason we cannot have both. Full size LT1 can do that if you remove the battery tube. There’s no reason to exclude a battery tube.

The only thing really missing is a screw-on cap for the base of the LT1 head when the battery tube is removed, but frankly one could find a plastic lid of some kind to match the opening diameter (the idea, to protect the driver inside).

I like the idea a lot.

Maybe instead of the threaded cap on the bottom of the LT1 a threaded plug can be made.

Voted for 18650 and 21700.
I won’t be bothered if I it comes with 26650 body. but I’d prefer it thiner.

I like this idea, the battery in the center would get awfully hot

It would be great…unless that maybe some people will have this light for power outage, and then…a USB wall adapter doesn’t work :expressionless:
And not every body has a power bank!
My parents, my aunts, if the power is out, they will not have a wall socket to plug it in, and they also don’t have power banks! So…I would say that batteries are needed :+1:

21700 / 18650 for me. Just to keep the dimensions smaller.
But I’d be OK if the 26650 format was used and the tube was long enough for a 21700.

I’ve got a cheapy lantern with a battery down the center. It’s a nice form factor.

It also has the crappiest PWM I’ve ever seen. Virtually none at high. 100Hz on low.
All the Best,
Jeff

If the tube is sized for 26650 it will still be long enough for a 21700. According to Barry it will have springs at both ends of the tube.

Based on chat with Barry it was decided to go with the 21700 tube.
