flashlight podcast?

I like the idea. But i don’t know if i would interesting in listern to someone decribe how amazing their lights are. :person_facepalming:
Let alone we don’t have many good YouTube channel dedicated to flashlight enthusiasts.

Successful is when people tune in to listen, view or discuss a certain topic they are interested in.
If there are thousands reading on BLF how to build something, how to design a flashlight or how the future of lights could look like - then I believe there is a potential for a light based podcast.

I listened to a pentesting podcast once and it was actually quite interesting and entertaining.

The light podcast could have…

- interviews with brands

- have light 101 sessions for products (like mini lessons)

- maybe even a section with upcoming deals, or special holidays

  • could expand into work lights, personal lights, home lighting, smart lights, car lights, (…)

I think if it is produced in an entertaining way, it could work.

How many people would be interested about this? I mean, some people prefer to listen/talk rather than read on a forum for many reasons.

One area that fits the podcast format well is the economics of flashlights. It probably follows pretty closely with the economics of manufacturing in China, but it would be interesting to have an understanding of the supply chain costs of the components in a flashlight, manufacturing costs, distribution, and marketing.

We see these brands on BLF, but how big are they really? How many people does it take to run an operation like Wuben.

A live stream podcast with a few friends talking about footage of a night of flashlight shenanigans and stories of funny things about odd times when a light was useful etc would be pretty cool.

Live streaming would have to be almost done by someone with access to large quantity of lights and a good dark location outside to host on the days of casting.

I would love to co host it but I do not have a ton of lights and certainly don’t have the knowledge to back up the inbound questions that would come with.

It would be fun to have 3-4 people giving an opinion on different lights. Heck if we were lucky We could get some of the old hands around here as guests.

Some prepper and outdoor or gun channels are already livestreaming or casting sessions about flashlights. it is one of their “sub segments”. And some of their livestreams only have a “placeholder” image, so that would be like a podcast, I guess.

if people are discussing something like a review or something else, the listener need a way to follow without having that content at hand.

What’s worse than pictures of a unboxing, a video of a unboxing. What’s worse than a video of a unboxing, a podcast of an unboxing.

“Oh my, look how nicely this charging cable is wrapped. A twist-tie and plastic baggie. Now there’s a class act. Wooooooow.”

:confounded:

I was thinking more along the lines of going over footage of extreme flashlight tag with lights in a canyon or forest or just a giant empty field…… or a park LOL

There is one podcast i know of run by Prometheus: Podcast Blogs – darksucks.com
There are several YouTube channels that provide lots of consistent videos, one of them being Martin of M4d M4x deals:
Martin M4D M4X Rathmanner - YouTube aka Martin M4D M4X Rathmanner - YouTube

I don`t know if there is a podcast about flashlights but if someone wants to make one id love to be a guest/host. Talking about flashlights an hour a week with some other flashlight enthusiasts sounds fun.

Not really about flashlights nor worth starting it’s own thread but…
I heard about a new podcast on NPR regarding the future. In particular there would be some talk and episodes related specifically to lithium. Decided some others might be interested so I thought i’d share…. How We Survive hosted by Molly Wood.

It doesn’t seem very viable, but it could be interesting. It would be cool if it focused on more technical things, the design, science and engineering behind lights, batteries and LEDs. Discussing the econonomics could be very insightful as well. Just talking about specific products (basically the “review” podcast) would be pretty boring and pointless in my opinion.

It would be super cool if it featured some of the more knowledgeable, long-term members from BLF, designers, manufacturers, reviewers etc…. it sounds pointlessly, exessively nerdy in the best possible way

I imagine that a flashlight podcast would go similarly to many other podcasts. Flashlights would be a recurring focus but not the main focus every day. It would be kinda like a live version of the Miscellaneous -> Off Topic Chatter section here on BLF

One that’s 2 hours long?

Most podcasts are deadly dull after the first one or two.
After the basics get covered and the typical lights reviewed, you end up with the kind of stuff that’s “let’s try dunking a light in butter and maple jelly ’cause we can’t think of anything else to do”
“But we sure love to hear ourselves talk….”

Or Mythbusters after all the good ideas were done.
“Screw it, this isn’t interesting, Get the Tannerite and we’ll blow that sucker up!”
All the Best,
Jeff

Sounds pretty entertaining

if there actually is a flashlight podcast
i do not know about it, nor would i listen.

Today we're talking about the red black cat I got from my old BLF buddy Fishinfool early in 2012. I was desperate to get my hands on a light made in Gemany. I recall opening that plastic bag and quickly my heart sank when I saw that white cardbord box had been crushed by that pesky old mailman .I broke out my webcam to show dealextreme yet another smooshed box from them . Grabbed a freshly charged Duraloop out of my trustfire tr-01 charger excited to see what the SST p7 looked like on a nice white wall ......

Pods

It’s not a podcast but I like how Jason (Prometheus Lights) talks in his videos about the flashlights and stuffs he likes:

Darren and I having a go at doing a flashlight podcast called Flashlight Fanatics.

Our first episode is about power outages and the different challenges that you might face during a storm. I talk about some recent experiences during storms where big transmission lines fell down.

It’s interesting to hear the perspective of different flashlight users.

One enthusiast mentioned that they live with load shedding where there are frequent power outages in their locations.

Here’s the first episode:
