Convoy S2+ : replacing XM-L2 with SST40

Hi,

Newbie here. I have a Convoy S2+ with XM-L2 using 7135*6 circuit.

I would like to replace the LED mcpb with SST40 16mm mcpb.

Is the SST40 mcpb a direct swap replacement for the XM-L2 board?

Thanks.

If the SST-40 MCPCB is also 16mm, yes.

Direct swap but no gain with the stock driver

will fit but the centering ring from the XM-L2 will be too big —- you will gain CRI for sure —especially with the 4000k

You might want to upgrade the driver as well to get the most out of it.
BG sells the BLF X6 driver, which is an interesting replacement.

Edit, boy these drivers are expensive at BG nowadays, they used to be 8USD or so.

Maybe just buy a new S2+ with SST-40 and 5A driver?

But that’s no fun!

A direct LED replacement yes, but you’ll probably need to play around with centering the LED in the reflector unless you get a compatible spacer, like from here: Kaidomain Misc Parts

I’ve had success with utilizing a larger spacer (eventually by chance the LED gets centered), but it certainly is easier and looks better with the correct spacer.

I believe OP means SST-40, not SST-20 which is smaller and available with high cri.

This is a 2-year-old unit that I had in my spares box.

LED is already dead due to some mishandling of the module.

Having been exposed to other lights these couple of of years, I now intend to make this a working light again.

So I’m taking it easy — LED mcpb at the very least.

There I go again —Not comprehending what I read in the OP —— SST40 in my opinion in a S2 makes a terrible beam —but in all fairness I really don’t care for a XM-L2 in them either

If you don’t have a Nichia 219B flashlight yet, I would suggest sticking one of these beauties in there: 219B R9080 LED
