Same here, no tax. I did not complete the order but was on the last step. I never order from Banggood anymore.

My Banggood orders haven’t shown tax as yet, and I just made 2 in the past week. AliExpress is charging tax, though. But it appears to be some kind of “VAT” that is less than what my state charges…
I had only one issue with shipping from Banggood. It took a long time to resolve, but I eventually got a refund. I’ve made about a handful of orders since (spanning about 18 months—I’m not a frequent buyer) and no problems. As for tax… I wonder if it’s somehow state dependent? Or luck of the draw? Or… based on order cost? I mean, if someone says that Banggood charged them tax I’m going to give the benefit of the doubt and that they’re not making a false claim.
I hear what you are saying, but I don't know what state Correllux lives in. I see that you live in NJ, and CNCman lives on the Mississippi Gulf coast and I live in TX on the Gulf coast also. But it just doesn't seem to make sense for one state to have Banggood charge them tax and not the other states.
As far as shipping problems, Banggood has been good with zero issues. Of 50 or so orders from our friends overseas the only problems I've had has been with FastTech.... and that was 5 of 6 orders with issues. And one of those is still "intransit" after 100+ days.
If anyone thinks that AX, BG, etc., actually remit said “taxes” collected to those respective states… :person_facepalming:
My state confirmed that they do (it's under Alibaba rather than express but likely everything grouped together as the umbrella owner).
These taxes are entirely state based and that is why there is a good range of variation between states although at this point fewer businesses can claim exemption. Enforcement is another matter. I can't explain the BG tax for me while none for you. I don't mind when I get charged tax (well I do a little, but we're way past the point of having to get used to it...and a big middle finger to South Dakota for bringing the hammer down). Best thing you can do is look up YOUR state's tax structure so you know what is supposed to be going on. If you aren't getting charged tax then enjoy it and if you can get away with not self-reporting the use tax on your returns, enjoy that, too. In the unlikely event someone comes knocking with questions or you have an audit, then you may have to cough up the unpaid amounts plus extra. What one person's tax situation is in their state means a hill of beans to you if you're in a different state (or can, anyway...minor differences but most states at this point are close to homogeneous for sales/use tax for individuals).
Ali seems to just use "VAT" without differentiation for whatever reason...but I have no idea what others may see from other countries. There are integrated platform calculators that most retailers use for taxes...costs significantly but is cheaper than trying to do all of that in-house and cuts the risk of mistakes/liabilities down to almost nothing as long as they keep them updated.
There are some tiny outfits that I strongly suspect would not be required to collect tax for me based on our caps here, but they still do. That's fine. Someone like MTN...? Kinda would expect that he could be exempt. Technically none of us individuals are exempt because the goods are still being bought and tax is due, but this is all about the business responsibilities/liabilities at the point of sale...in the end it's on you.
