Cause damage

Do you damage something if you turn on your light without any lens/TIR/glass, nothing, just the LEDs, nothing else….?

If the mcpcb is not secured to the shelf, the LEDs may overheat and be damaged. In many lights the lens/reflector/optic holds the mcpcb down on the shelf, maintaining the thermal path.

No, not under normal conditions. Some designs may use the reflector to hold the LED pressed against a heat sink.

IMHO, no. It’s not mechanical, it’s electrical. Starting an engine without a harmonic balancer will damage the engine. That’s because the engine is mechanical.

In my experience, usually the LED suffers no damage if the mpcb isn’t secured.

If it overheats, usually one of the wires from the driver will desolder itself from the star. If that happens, check the thermal path, apply more thermal grease if necessary and/or fasten the star down, then resolder.

maybe I´ll write another post. Was trying to change out the optic from an EDC18 to Carclo 10507. Had a hard time removing bezel. After removing bezel and optioc, did turn it on a couple of times to see how LEDs looked. Put Carclo in and Anduril was not wokring well at all. Now nothing works except green button.
