Dedicated Pioneman Deals (Updated Jan 9th): Pioneman P80 Group Buy

Wow! The WT90 with SFH55 will be a complete monster!

I will probably go for the SBT90.2 in the k80 for three reasons:

1. I don’t yet have a torch with a SBT90.2 and this host looks perfect for it.
2. As you motioned, a single 26800 is not enough for the mighty SFH55.
3. I want more throw.

I’ll obviously wait for Simon to release his version.

Ordered!

I’d like to see them add throw numbers for the different emitters.

I'll ask them for the information.

Hi Tom, what do you think about the 26980 battery that Neal offers, do you think it will be enough for SFH55, they say it can continuously deliver 40A and up to 60A peak, do you think this is true and do you think it can bring the performance closer to 3x21700? Thanks.

I thought I had one, can't locate it if I do. Hard to imagine continuous 40A from one cell. I'd say let's see a test, but don't think Mooch or HKJ can test at 40A, not sure. Other issue can it drive this LED at high amps on a direct FET - is the LED's Vf low enough and the battery's resistance low enough to achieve those high amps for any length of time. That's more concerning.

I have access to 10V50A battery cyclers. If someone wants to donate a cell or two, I’ll test it.

You're right, the second problem is more troubling than the first, I hadn't thought about it ... thanks Tom

At those currents, voltage drop at every connection is likely significant. Traditional spring contacts aren’t good enough imo. A compression design using the tailcap and flat, gold plated discs would be required, but this would not be a general consumer design. A built in cell could maybe get you there, but people don’t like that around here. I think we are losing touch with how much power this is…

I knew something not right when i saw the lens last week. What is the purpose of those green film?

Just received mine today.

Nice light, SFH55 is a good emitter, very bright, very well made.

But… I do not recommend this light. Why? Because the advertised UI is a lie. HOLD FOR OFF??!! Insanity!

The UI on this light is single click for on and single click to change modes. And hold for off. You gotta be kidding me.

May hold-for-off die and never return

If Pioneman plans on releasing a better driver, I will be asking for one.
This is a picture of the current driver in the light. Imgur: The magic of the Internet

If Simon releases a better driver I’ll buy it.

The SFH55 is pretty Damm good it’s definitely 10,000 lumens to my eye. And compared to other lights like Astrolux EA01s it hits the mark.

The form factor is what a single cell Sofirn SP70 would be like, the reflector actually looks identical to me. About that… Mine came with an OP reflector while the listing photos all show a smooth reflector. Strike 2.

Nightwatch? Interesting...

I will say, it does have a good watertight seal.

While doing turbo punishment runs on the light it got incredibly hot and the USB cover cap blew open with enough sound and force that I thought the battery was venting. Haha!

Did you time the turbo before the temperature controlled kicked in?

Not exactly. I will do more testing tonight. Though going to turbo from COLD I think it went over 4 mins before it started stepping down, not smoothly I might add but small stepped reductions.

Ok, fully charged from cold. I am getting exactly 2 minutes before any stepdown. It will then stepdown to high over 30 more seconds. That was test 1.

Recharged, turn on from cold, again 2 minutes then stepdown, this time I immediately push back to turbo. I then get 30 seconds of turbo before it’s stepping down. I do that 6 times and it brings me to 5 minutes. At this point the battery tube is becoming too hot to hold and touching the head will burn me. I pushed it a bit further but didn’t see any point in going past 5:30.

All said, this light is a pretty good thermal performer.

Thank you!
