Candlepowerforums is "dead" to me.

I joined CPF in February 2010, and you all can see when I joined BLF.

I only have two posts on CPF.

No problem!

If they ever disable them my internet usage is going to plummet. I even have a third-party youtube client on my phone so I don’t even wait for ads on there.

Vegeta would be very proud of your power post level on BLF

Came here from there to get the gigglemonster… :stuck_out_tongue:

CPF should be given some respect, after all, most of us came from there.

Came here from there to get some group buy and also pinkpanda’s auction.

Cat Stevens is more than ok. Yusuf Muslim is dead to me. Read the wiki about cat Stevens. And then read this wiki about Cat Stevens’ comments about Salmon Rushdie Cat Stevens' comments about Salman Rushdie - Wikipedia He has lied over and over about what he said.

Wow, what a subject leap! I’d like to see that in slow motion……

…and 480 x 212 pixels ain’t gonna cut it. 1920 x 844 may possibly show the transition of this sudden subject leap.

Cpf is dead because power abuse. It has more traffic because it is for profit, much like head-fi.

Since CPF was sold, about 6 months ago, it has lost traffic and is no longer ranked more popular than BLF (smaller number is higher ranking):

.

I feel sorry for the new ower of CPF.

Thats kinda strange, did he actually make the site worse or is it just pandemic related coincidence?

If you look at the right side shelf of the the two graphs, CPF is actually trending slightly higher, going back say 40-45 days, after cratering during the sale.

Chris

In general, people don’t like changes. Wait for real results when things cool down.

back in January 2021, CPF had a 14% better ranking than BLF see top half of image below:

now in November 2021, CPF has a 32% worse ranking than BLF. That is a 10 month combined downward change of 46% for CPF relative to BLF…

.

Wow, not to be Debbie Downer, but both CPF and BLF have a worse rank now than in January 2021.

More people were probably staying at home due to lockdown then, so lots of time to focus on new things or pick up old hobbies. That’s my guess anyway.

I noticed it seems to be less active lately.

true, Im only comparing their Relative Ranking

being curious, I looked up Reddit Flashlight… it is presently #20 (I dont have its January data)
apparently much more traffic on Reddit, than BLF or CPF
.

corona affected everyone, so whatever differences, I dont think corona is the primary variable to explain why CPF is sinking… I could speculate as to other reasons… but whatever they are… the ranking has shifted to favor BLF, over CPF… with Reddit eclipsing both CPF and BLF…

I have also started using Reddit, and have had nothing but happy interactions there, since CPF turned into a ghost town…

I feel sorry for the guy that paid Greta for CPF…

Im not on Facebook, so dont know if that accounts for some of the shift in participation

I don’t think the Reddit ranking is specific to /r/flashlight, it’s just the whole massive site, which is indeed mega popular. I honestly don’t understand why; I can’t speak to /r/flashlight specifically, but when I’m forced to use Reddit for some other non-flashlight related information it’s always a dreadful experience, both technically and socially. It’s an incredibly toxic and unfriendly place there for the most part.

I don’t pay too much attention to Alexa, because it’s an artificial metric that doesn’t really reflect the reality or the actual vitality of a given website, and I personally doubt even the sources and the accuracy of their raw stats. I also don’t run Google Analytics or anything like that, but I do have some limited stats that come with the Google Adsense that I still use here. The only external thing that concerns me is the Google search ranking, since that is what makes us discoverable online, and even influences how quickly the Google site search picks up on new threads for our existing users’ searches. I wasn’t too happy after we switched to using SSL (HTTPS) because it coincided with a new way that Google started defining or grouping websites that site owners declare (“domain properties” vs. specific http://example.com or https://example.com). From what I can tell there seems to have been a major drop in our search ranking right when I switched it to HTTPS, almost as if Google threw out their old index and started over afresh. It seems to be marginally better now, but I’m not sure. At any rate I don’t obsess too much about metrics, because at the end of the day my only job is to provide a pleasant and functional environment for everyone here, not aiming to please the Google or Alexa bots.
