Candlepowerforums is "dead" to me.

Yep, threading and finding new comments on a post is another deficiency. I can’t believe that a site with their level of resources can be so clumsy and limited in that respect. If a post gets more than about 20 comments it’s almost possible to read them all, with some getting buried by the threading, and others getting hidden depending on the popularity of the posts surrounding it.

So true, that parable is a real gem. My corollary to it is also one of my favorite jokes. A guy goes to the doctor: “Doctor, I hurt everywhere! It hurts here (indicating his chest) and here (touching his neck) and even here (touching his shin).” The doctor takes him by the hand and replies: “Hmmmmmm, yes, that explains it. You’ve got a broken finger.”

> You’ve got a broken finger.

LOL! :+1:

Nice!

I read a fair bit of Ask A Manager so i know there are lots of rotten situations but your outlook on life will play a large part in determining your potential.

Only reason I visit that trash forum once a fortnight or so is to check Vinh’s modded lights, however I haven’t even bought one since I started buying Emisar lights.
FYI: if you even mention this forum or link a thread here your post is deleted and you get a warning, that is beyond pathetic.
Anyway, that forum is a business, not even comparable to this excellent forum. I did have a good laugh when I got a PM from the new owner asking for money for membership fee’s. Can’t even sell your lights over there without membership fee’s :person_facepalming:

money for membership fee’s

unbelievable....

i remember i quite posting there when was told that i cannot even leave a direct link to product page.

I googled how to write to the CPF admin and found this thread. Today I went to the forum and found that I was blocked for spam, although I did not leave any messages. I was surprised. I was also deprived of the opportunity to write to the administrator, because the captcha constantly gave an error and did not work. That's it.

I stumbled upon this thread by accident. I don’t really understand what a dead forum means? I bookmarked some really dead forums with only a few posts from 2013-14 and about now 5 active members. Is a huge knowledge base and a lot of good people in the CPF and here. Nobody looks like a dead person.

I’m wondering if these 2 sites are dead?
http://www.knifetalkforums.com/

“Is dead” here means that there is relatively little activity, but also note the title of the first post “is dead to me”, i.e. many people will not use it because of bad experiences with ‘greta’ and the moderators. It is on my boycott list because of its anti-social previous owner and the ditto anti-social moderators (which were still active there a while ago as reported by others), which means the whole atmosphere there is fooked up. That may improve if those moderators are kicked out but even if that happens, for me it will stay on my ‘no visit’ list.

They were kicked out, those 2 who used to ban anyone who asked about hid headlamps. they also harassed me in pm multiple times, each time i did not hold back, lol. they are no longer moderators. just regular members, but i guess it was such a hit to their egos, they no longer post there, good riddance, imo. seems like things slowly improving there with the new owner.

That site used to be so big and now it’s so small.

I wish the title of this topic was just “Candlepowerforums” as the full sentence as it is doesn’t convey a positive feeling at all, and seems to periodically draw in detractors.

Yes, Candlepowerforums is a shadow compared to its original self. It was the real heartbeat of the community for many years until BLF surpassed it in membership and activity. But frankly, CPF deserves respect. Its earlier success is what made BLF possible. And really, if you’re into vintage or “old school,” that’s the place to go. There’s a lot of great info there. It also looks like a lot of veteran LED flashlight enthusiasts are still puttering around there too. And helpful when consulted. So let’s not be negative. The unfortunate bad interactions that sometimes happen aren’t often. There are a few hotheads still floating around there. But most of them are good people.

I started on CPF. After some time, I made friends, it was a community to me. It’s definitely not what it used to be, but I still hold fond memories and visit often.

2018 was last time I lurked there. I think once they started making some rules in 2012 or so concerning linking businesses they went down hill.

I started over there too, but I haven’t been back there in so long I can’t remember my user name or password.
All I recall is that every time I tried to post I got snotted off by somebody. It didn’t take long for the appeal to wear off.

I finally got approved there and found the info I wanted but I really like this place more. It was definately the place to be in 2009 though.

Same here. I had a fantastic few nights out in London with a group of guys who I would never of found without CPF.
Not logged on CPF for ages, just tried and can’t log in. Can’t reset my password as I think it was linked to an old email address.

Many forums are running out of time and relevancy. In the grand scheme of things, isn’t everything?

I’m trying to use CPF, but it won’t let me post or send messages. When I try, a window pops up and tells me my message is too “spam like” and try again. But no message will work. I can’t ask them about it, because of that - what to do? I have a lot of lights to sell, and of course I’ll post them here first, but I would like to post there too.
Any suggestions?

I’m not sure there’s enough traffic over there anymore to bother with.

I haven’t been able to get in for quite some time, I just quit trying after a while.
