im starting to think lumens dont mean as muchas i thought they did

i can walk around the woods with my zebra flashlight running about 1/10 of a lumen. and some lights ineed like 4 lumens

It’s a little more complicated. I’m not saying you’re wrong, but there might be more to it:

Are you sure each light is putting out that many lumens? Just because a mfr says a light puts out X number of lumens doesn’t make it so, and also depending on the driver & battery, the output can be wildly different between full charge/new battery vs half-charge/lower voltage battery.

Then there’s the color temperature/spectrum (cool white, soft white, warm white…or 3000k, 5000k, 6000k, etc…) your eyes will “see” the same brightness/lumens differently for different color temperatures.

Food for thought, maybe

very valid points ive saw a video where they was talking about street lights and how 6500 tint allows us to see furhter

Yea, it’s good to keep your eyes adjusted to the night, and when they are, you need very little light to walk a trail or whatever.

I guess everyone is different. I want about 1200 - 1500 sustained lumens in a floody beam. Can’t stand walking with much less than 1000. Also have no use for throwers unless it’s a very specific task.

Auxiliary Leds = Big 10-4!

Lux/candela is just as important as lumens, and I agree that CRI is pretty high up there in importance for how well you can actually SEE with a light in many use cases.

The light pattern matters also.

And, as someone else said, the lumen ratings may be inaccurate, especially at low levels.

Usually people only care that the max lumens is accurate, so the low levels may not be as accurately calibrated.

Also it is harder to regulate and control the current at low levels, so there is that too.

And the light color/tint may affect it also.

I have noticed that the color of some lights tends to change as the lumens change.

tonight i revisted a old abanonded building not sure what it used to be been abanonded since ive liveed here. but its very dark behind it i was able to go ultra low again to i steped on some crazy huge dead bird. i think it was a vulture or some kind of turkey

You’ve come down with a virus called delumenitis. My Rx is to take 2 Q8 tonight, and if you’re still not seeing better, call us in the morning.
