I bought an Energizer 1 hour recharger with 6 AA and 4 AAA batteries for $12.99 at Costco today. The package included the title adapter, which specifies Input: AC/CA 100-240V~50/60Hz 28W, Output: DC/CC 16V = 1.3A. Here’s the question - Can this be used in the Philippines (with 220V/50 Hz power)? Should I replace the whole charger with something not so fast? ty
Universal input, so it should work fine.
Replace the charger - 1 hr is too fast. The cells won’t last long with a 1 hr charger.
What is the capacity of the cells?
Does it require 10 cells to charge at a time?
Is there a warranty on the cells?
Seems like ER would know how fast to charge their cells without damage, otherwise there would be warranty claims, but who knows…?
4 cell charger, can charge 1 to 4. Cells are standard, made in japan, Nimh.
What’s made in Japan?
The adapter will work with 220vac/50 Hz. The charging protocol is controlled by the charger unit. The 16V had me confused about what was using such a high voltage (that is the charger input, not the output).
The product data sheet indicates it has a timer to prevent overcharge, temperature control and negative delta voltage (-dV) control. If all that is true then it should be an excellent charger—better than most others.
Our electricity here in the Philippines is more like 240v/60Hz, as can be seen in this power meter (just tested it now).
Anyway, the specs you mentioned for the charger is 100-240v ~ 50/60hz, which means it’s universal, so the charger should work here.
However, 1 hour charging time for AA/AAA batteries is considered very fast, this may make charging the batteries quite hot (which will likely shorten the batteries life cycle).
Maybe a 3-4 hour charger would be more reasonable…
