Monster light Trustfire x100

4A x 12.6V = 50.4 W pulled from cells
50.4W x .80efficiency(typ) = 40.32W into LED array
40.32W / 7LED = 5.76W/LED
5.76W / 3.4Vf = 1.69A per XML (assuming 3.4Vf)

So on paper it should be more lumens than the TR-J18/J12, and the bigger reflectors will project a tighter beam. It draws almost double the power of the TR-J12.

When measured 4A @ tail cap mean Vload for 1 cell is about 3.3 - 3.7V, depend on type of batteries.

3 cells @ 4A , 9.9V - 11.1 V about 42W

Guys,

Just buy you a TK70 and stop messing with these that aren’t going to work near as well. You will be money ahead.

Wow!!!

I just broke 2 of my fingers and spent 12k on surgery though, just came back frm surgery fitting titanium plates. :frowning: explosion.

I’m sorry to hear that, get well soon

After the accident, realised that life is short. need to get more lights.

2.3-2.4A seems to be near the original triple XM-L SR3800….but that’s like 2.55A 2 cells but for 3 XM-L. This is with 1 extra XM-L for slightly better efficiency. I think this one could be like ~ 3200 lumens OTF. Cool!

So exactly what happened?

Exploded 18650 in light. Nah….i was pumpimg up those pressurised sprayer and pumping it when it exploded.

A 18650/26650 sure can do as much damage in a flashlight if one is not careful. Use protected cells for day-day usage and do monitor voltages.

Very difficult to type now.

Oh right… my calcs above neglected Vload<Vno-load for each cell.

Under load cell-V drops and the calculation looks like this with estimated Vload=3.5V (I normally use Vnom = 3.6V for calcs like this)
4A x 10.5 = 42 W pulled from cells
42 x .80efficiency(typ) = 33.6W into LED array
33.6W / 7LED = 4.8W/LED
4.8W / 3.4Vf = 1.41A per XML (assuming 3.4Vf)

Slightly less than the previous calculation at 4.2Vbatt

At this load, Vf of XM-L will be rather lower, around 3.2 / maybe lower with good chip.

Holy s#!& - I hope you heal up quickly.

At least you didn’t have the thing clamped tightly between your thighs, for leverage. Typing would have been the _last _of your worries.

LOL! I was actually pumping it on a stool which is at the thigh level! So i am unlucky and lucky in a sense!

Just happened recently.

Anyway the Solarstorm is not driven that high, at 2700L OTF as the 2A driver is not “stable”. So not sure which one to aim for. But i’ll surely use protected cells here which i’d test conscientiously!

1.40A to LED is 3192L OTF.

To give an idea on the heat levels, the Trustfire TR-3T6 triple XM-L with 1300L OTF is driven to such levels. This light has 7 T6 but quite a bit bigger. 1.12kg is no joke with most of it at the head. TK70 is 769g. But i suspect that 1.12kg is in error.

Ok I’m getting 4 26170s and running this baby shorty!

Probably can get 26500, 4S with the 3-cell tube.

Where can you buy 26170s?

You guys are are assuming its more efficient, or brighter overall with higher Vin. It should be noted that lights like the TR-J12/18 are brighter at 8.4Vin than 12.6

It seems that in this case for 3S it could very well be brighter than 4S. 4A for 3S and 9.6A for 4S. There would be more voltage sag for 3S and hence 3S should give a higher reading, but if the cells are good then 4A shd still not sag a lot. Could be the case for J12….difference of about 5% in output.

This is confirmed a > 3000L light, just a matter of 3200, 3300 or 3400L OTF. Pity no UCL size.

This place has 4 x TF 26650 protected included for a nice price.

I have asked Wendy of BIO for a quote.

I use BSU 26170s from lightfake.com
