Dune update.
this is why i could not
hear some of the dialogue….
“I used to be able to understand 99% of the dialogue in Hollywood films.
But over the past 10 years or so, I’ve noticed that percentage has dropped significantly — and it’s not due to hearing loss on my end.”
So basically, actors are getting more sloppy and audio takes a back seat to everything else (like CGI)… thus, it falls by the wayside. I can see it. “So what if you can’t understand everything they say? This is entertainment. You’re watching a visual spectacle—the audio dialog is along for the ride. Music is more important.”
I can’t stand actors who indulge being inarticulate.
Yea I didn’t have trouble understanding either, but that could be because my local theater likes to crank the volume up to ear-shattering levels…I can actually hear the movie just fine with my fingers in my ears too! :person_facepalming:
But I understand the issue in general. Sometimes the dialogue is almost inaudible and then you get blasted by your speakers when the action starts because you had to crank the volume to hear. More often than not I end up with the subtitles on.
This is an excellent drama, with amazing acting by Benicio Del Toro and Halle Berry, in which a woman whose husband was recently murdered invites his childhood friend, who is now a heroin addict, to live at her home with her and her two children while she grieves her husband’s loss. Very well done.
The Ghostbusters reboot simply didn’t measure up well to the original movies in the eyes of fans. For one, it traded Bill Murray humor for Melissa McCarthy humor. Whether you are a fan of either/both you have to admit that their movies play very differently. Secondly, prior to release I don’t think they were very honest about whether it was a reboot or not. And finally, rebooting franchises with characters of different genders is just lazy. Hollywood is trying to jump-start this trend because they can get more mileage out of proven intellectual properties. They are afraid to take chances with original concepts. If you want to see how much Hollywood really believes in women, look at how long it took them to make Black Widow, which should have released in 2016 or 2017.
Rather because this movie is shallow, script is bad and looks and feels like B-movie pulp.
It’s good, that not everyone admire that garbage, what is reflected on IMDB.
Margot must have big mortgage to pay if she act in this “movie”
What are you basing that off of besides how much you enjoyed the film? Maybe others didn’t share your enthusiasm.

And you think that many comic book nerds aren't misogynistic?
I don't assume that comic book fans are more misogynistic as a group than any other. You have to remember that online feedback is literally a vocal minority in almost every case. Product reviews for example, bear this out. Lots of people can't be arsed to leave their opinions online and those that do are often angry for some reason. I believe this is why paid reviews are such an issue on Amazon. Sellers are trying to offset the negative vocal minority who got lemons or had bad shipping experiences.

Do you remember their response when the all-female Ghostbusters was announced? They lost their ****.
I see the extensive attention those comments got as a smokescreen. Like I said, Hollywood as a whole is not a champion for women's rights. But if they can convince people that anyone not watching their movie is a misogynist, then societal pressure will force many people to buy tickets who otherwise wouldn't have. I'm not surprised that there were some misogynist comments; there are so many people in the world that there is bound to be a couple of bad eggs leaving nasty comments on everything. I just don't think it's representative of how most people are. "News" sites also love to spread nasty news like that because it gets clicks and views.

Also, the new Dune movie currently has an 8.2, and the original has a 6.4 Yet the original is a much more entertaining movie. Although the new Dune movies isn't technically a remake, it could easily pass as one. The new Dune movie has more in common with the original Dune than the Ghostbusters reboot has in common with the original Ghostbusters.

Firstly, that's 100% your opinion on the entertainment front. That's subjective. Secondly, the situations were very different; Ghostbusters (2016) was a remake of a beloved classic while Dune (2021) was a remake of a critical failure.
The Dune novel was award-winning. It won the Hugo award and the first Nebula award for best novel. It has had a dedicated fanbase among sci-fi readers since 1965. The 1984 film may have been more entertaining minute-to-minute for some, but it was not a good adaption of that book. Objectively speaking, the 1984 Dune also had some issues with story structure and pacing due to condensing such a long and slow book into a 2 hr long movie. The special affects were also a product of their time. The lengthy expositional narration in the beginning is an example of how not to convey information in a film. David Lynch disowned the 1984 Dune due to studio meddling and hasn't been interested in blockbusters since.
If you doubt the relevance of book-readers at the box office, look at how the Narnia series declined in reception as they strayed further from the books with each installment. The effect was so severe that the series was cut short.
All in all, I think there are a lot of good reasons for the scores these two movies have.
I can’t believe I went to all that trouble to write out a thoughtful response and your response is just, “Well, that’s like your opinion man.” Stupid me. Won’t waste my time in the future.
1. My sentences often begin with qualifiers like, “I believe”, “I feel”, and “I see” when I want to be clear that something is based on my thoughts and reasoning.
2. You stated your opinions about BoP and Dune as facts and treated them like evidence. e.g. Somehow, your enjoyment-based opinion that Birds of Prey deserved a 7.5/10 and got a 6.1/10 is some kind of smoking gun.
3. You ignored all of my larger points to accuse me of criticizing your for having a different opinion, which I did not do. I pointed out that your opinions do not constitute evidence and/or were not facts.
4. I backed up my opinions with facts and reasoning and you didn’t take the time to do the same in response.
This is England series.
First of it all I really like and admire Shane Meadows and his movies. Dead Man’s Shoes, Somers Town, A Room for Romeo Brass, TwentyFourSeven are foking brilliant.
They have a story, meaning, are different that all mainstream shit. Makes you think, not just swallow pulp served.
Are they good? I enjoyed it, it’s one of the movies I would watch again. There are not many.
