I hope they obtained permission from Leonard Cohen’s publisher to butcher his song for their purpose. He understandably didn’t write Christmas songs.
Hallelujah was written and recorded before 1984,
and Leonard Cohen was scammed into selling his song catalogue
(to Sony, IIRC) in 2001. So his estate has no rights to the song.
Yes, but my point was that I hope they got permission from the copyright holder to use his song.
