DC-Fix Diffusion Film Sale

The loss using filters is less than if you swap a warmer emitter . Depending on the filter .

the diffusion filters are in some cases less then10% and minus green filters are 14% and 16% for the 1/8th and minus 1/4 . 15% is imperceptible to the human eye so it’s pretty meaningless

Thanks

Hi. Can I buy some dc fix and green minus please

Today I received the dc-fix and minus green filters from Boaz and immediately tried them out.

I put both in a Fireflies E07X with SST20 2700k/4000k mix. Although rosy, it was still showing a bit of green and some tint shift/blue around the corona. The dc-fix and minus green filter worked and the beam is now much prettier, the rosiness is almost on par with my tint ramping D4SV2 with 219B sw27/sw45k when set to a visibly similar CCT.

Thanks Boaz!

Sent you a PM

Ordered! Tyvm!

Thanks Boaz! Really happy with the Zircon minus green and Rosco minus green filters. Wanted to lower the DUV of my LH351D 5,700K on my Emisar D4S V2 dual channel light with W1's for throw. It's really neat to be able to adjust/manipulate the tint to your preferences. Right now I put both a Zircon Z2 and a Rosco R4 filter on the LH351D'S to turn them into a more floody and brighter 219B SW45K clone that I'm really liking. I did a small post linked here, but very happy with this neat little fix. Thanks again!

I ended up cutting Boaz’s film for my dt8 just a little too short on my first try, but it isn’t noticeable when looking at the beam so I left it.

He included a couple sheets so I still have more than enough to redo it at some point, as well as to put on my other lights.

Some really good looking pics and info

Thanks for posting that other tint comparison picture for others as well Boaz. This picture reminded me of a sunset with the orange street light shining in the corner. The LH351D'S are a bit brighter in this comparison as both lights are at level 130/150, but when the LH351D'S are throttled down a bit they match the 219B's pretty closely. Loving the zircon and Rosco filters. Very neat.

PM sent for some removal of some angry blue W1’s and to fix a few SST20 4000k lights - good CRI but I can’t stand the tint too yellow/green :confounded: . Also this stuff fixes XPL Hi 5000k removing the green tint and making them a nice neutral tint.

Thank you for selling these films in small pieces!

I really like the #3 soft diffusion film. I added it to my Emisar D4v2 with the SST20 4000k emitters to smooth out the mild artifacts, and it does a good job without hurting the hotspot/throw much.

Then I decided to try the Carclo 10621 throwy optic in that flashlight. Normally I wouldn’t want to use that optic because I want a floody beam, and I don’t like the ring artifacts that optic makes. But with the #3 film on top of it I get a smooth, nearly artifact-free beam that is a little more throwy than with the 10622, but still has a good spill and a soft transition between hotspot and spill. I’m going to try that for a while to see how it suits me.

I just tried the #7 diffusion filter you gave me a small sample of. On top of the 10621 optic it diffuses the beam so much that it looks about the same as the 10622 optic. It pretty much negates the effect of the 10621, so there’s no point to using it in this flashlight. Its extremely fine frosting would make it a great diffusion filter if I wanted that much diffusion, though.

I also got the Z2 1/8 minus green filter to try out even though my SST20 emitters are not noticeably green (I must have gotten a good tint bin). The filter makes the beam slightly rosy, which I like. It is not enough to be off-putting, and I eventually stop noticing it, but I like the additional warmth of the beam. I am using that and the #3 film together.

To cut circles of film, I use the optic as a template and trace around it with a fine-point marker (I use my 10623 frosted optic because the smooth optics slide around too easily and I can’t get a good trace - I’d have to hold them in place with double-sided tape). By cutting just inside that line, I get a circle that fits perfectly in the head of the flashlight between the optic and the glass lens.

I got a few other films as well (#1, #5, #F4 (CCT Reduction), and #F5 (Red)). If I get around to experimenting with them and have any interesting experiences, I’ll report back.

How durable is the Lee 205 filter, compared to ones denoted as “Zircon”? I know they’re both the same brand, but wonder if there’s a thickness/durability difference.

Also, is the Lee 205 1/2 CTO similar to the Zircon 806 Warm Amber 2?

Two rather tough questions .

............

Not only are Zircon filters longer-lasting than their standard counterparts, they’re sturdier, too.

Manufactured using a 180-micron material, they are more than double the thickness of a normal lighting filter. This makes them more durable and easy-to-use.

Zircon still delivers in excess of 85% efficiency up to 20 months after installation.*

* Test data based on 11hrs continuous illumination per day over 20 months at 1-2cm clearance between LED chip and Lens/Filter interface. Average reduction in efficiency across all tested lamps was 12%. Performance may vary dependent on the individual application .....

Is the Lee 205 1/2 CTO similar to the Zircon 806 Warm Amber 2?

-The Zircon Amber 806 warm amber 2 would turn a 6400K into a 3250K

while a 205 1/2 CTO turns a 6400K into a little above 3800K

I just got a 24" x 21" sheet of Lee 205 1/2 CTO that I bought off of Amazon. It was shipped in a sturdy cardboard tube. I didn’t employ it on a flashlight, but instead on a desk top lamp (actually using it as a bedside lamp). It feels pretty thin. After unrolling and re-rolling the sheet a few times, I did notice a slight crease/dent in a few places. However, it does the job beautifully. I attached it using optical adhesive (no air bubbles). My lamp CCT is about 6000k. Now it feels more like 4000k.

The camera white balanced automatically... so it's harder to see it in the first photo on the right. But the photo below has both front and main LED banks on, forcing it to balance. You can see the CRI difference.

Question for all you DC-fixers… I love my D4V2’s with E21A’s in them, but they ship with the diffused optics for good reason. I have tired the clear tight focus Carclo optics and they really screw with the final beam. Would DC-fix fix that issue? I really want just a tad tighter focus, but really not down with the ugly beam.

Number 3 might be inbetween.

Just added some #1 to my SC31 and it’s a huge improvement for my usage. Made an okay light so much better. Thanks for offering these small pieces Boaz, much appreciated.

Happy I could help you out Natcho.

by the way ... Nice first post

:)

This is what I have done so far. I needed to warm up….I mean down…. my D4V2. Picture is the most realistic tint comparison to real life that I have been able to achieve. Like it says in the picture…I used Z-2 once and doubled up on F-4. I kept trying different sheets until I achieved the closest tint to a candle… 100% what I was going for!
