very warm high cri reading headlamp

Hello all,

I must have spent the best part of a week looking up makes and watching all the videos out there but still empty handed. Looking for the following:

- comfortable headband

- low light setting (5 lumen?)

- high cri

- very warm white

  • diffused hotspot (50cm diameter at 30cm)

Use case is to read stuff in bed without risking divorce.

The closest I seem to have found is the Sofirn HS05 with LH351D and 2700K. But confused though by why the same seller has two listings, one for an HS05 in three temperatures and another “new HS05” in 5000K.

Thanks all!

> Sofirn HS05 with LH351D and 2700K

that sounds like what you asked for… 2700k is Warm

5000k is not Warm, so skip that one

Fireflies Pl47 mule. Perfectly uniform for reading.

maybe a good suggestion if the OP is OK with 4000k or higher, but he asked for Warm (2700k), the LEDs fireflies offer are not what I would call Warm:

  • Emitter type:
    SST20 10W 5000K NW
    SST20 4000K FA3 CRI95
    Nichia 219B 4000K SW40 D220 R9080
    XPL Hi V3 1A Cool White (+$15.00)
    XPL Hi V2 5A 4000K Neutral White (+$15.00)

definition of Warm:
“measured by Correlated Color Temperature, which assigns a value in degrees Kelvin to different Color Temperatures, from 5700K for cool white to 2700K for warm white, with 4500K being neutral. ”

Unfortunately there are not a lot of choices under 4000k with a high cri. The hs05 might work but they show a moonlight of 1 and the next level is 10 so you may not get exactly where you want. And I’m going to guess that it has a fairly tight spot. The sp40a claims a low of 5 but that could be off a little but in either direction. As to the different listings, I would guess when that headlight first came out that it was only available with the 5000k. When they added other options they created a different listing.

Another option might be the Convoy H1 in 219b 3000k. Not sure about the moonlight modes, though. You’d have to check reviews.

This. 2700k is like a halogen light-bulb or a classic maglite, its very pleasing to use at night.

Agree, probably best option out of the box link to shop

Does anyone remember those Armytek lights with the E21A’s from clemence? One of those but with a 2000K, 2200K, or 2700K E21A would be a warm choice.

Can anyone even tell high/low CRI when just reading?

I use that LITOM horseshoe-shaped around-the-neck reading light. Super WW is almost amber, like 2200K, but it’s phosphor-converted, so you can still see red through blue.

Well, it was https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08JLFJM5T/ , but apparently no more.

Pointing, don’t rule out low CRI lights Just Because.

That was my top choice for a while because of the beaded TIR, floodiness, etc but it seems that a lot of people had build issues with it. Not sure if that was a thing of the past. Thoughts? Since I fell down the rabbit hole I ended up with, almost exclusively, Convoys and [as Eek-A-Mouse sang] I like them all.

Yes, I know about TIR issues, but its better than nothing. Better option is to buy H04 and change led , but not everyone have skills to do it.

The HS05 2700K would fit the bill well if only it came in a beaded TIR option. Aaaaaargh … these decisions are hard when one’s on a budget.

What about Manker E03H II?

It’s an SST20 at 4000K but got the beaded TIR and seems well constructed. But it’s kinda on the pricey side.

Oh sod it … ordered the HS05 in 2700K. Hopefully it’s sufficiently throwy and good luck to me retrofitting a beady tir.

I think the HS05 is a perfectly fine choice!
If you’re not able to find a TIR that fits, you can try applying a window security film (like DC-fix) or Scotch tape to the lens.

It’ll diffuse the hotspot, and you could apply multiple layers for greater effect.
There will naturally be some output losses - but depending on your use case that may actually be desirable.

Hi, I may answer why there are two listings :D. One ships from USA, the other ships from China. The title can tell the difference.
Now 2700K HS05 is out of stock

HS05 in this link ships from China

HS05 in this link ships from USA (only 5000K is available)

If you have any questions, please let me know

Glad you asked

I ordered the 2700K HS05 with battery kit yesterday and have high hopes for it. Is there a compatible beaded TIR lens that you recommend for it?

You have to know size of HS05 reflector and their room.
Be carefull if you want try unscrew the silver ring holder to avoid scratchs
For my SP40 I used a tool for open watch back case that I already had

Convoy have 17mm Tir lens, but now store is closed.
Can’t guarantee they will fit or it may be necessary to file them to reduce the depth

Still wearing mine every day, Light!
