Build in progress

Teaser :smiling_imp:

Yeh, I’m a long way from finishing this light but I wanted to post it anyway and forgot about it till just before bed.

One piece is an offcut from the fw3m, the other is a bonus piece received from the supplier. Placing them together looks the right shape if a little small…

If I simply thread them together it’ll end up too short. So I rummaged through what I have to make a ‘neck’. I found a brass hose fitting that is an offcut from the CuB-P60 I made.

The rough size and shape is almost perfect for a mock up. I’m liking this look more and more. Brass and mokuti has a top shelf look about it.

Oh yes!! I HAVE TO MAKE THIS!!

Yes, you do have to make it. We’re all this excited over mock-ups…

Reminds me of a lightsaber.

Attractive!

Amazing!

Australia day today so i had a bit of time to work on this. Some of this work was done previously. I don’t think i noted before - planning to run 14500 cell (never mind the alkaleak i’m using for size testing).

I’ll turn it down more later.

I threaded both ends of the body the same so the tail can screw in either end.

More to come… Maybe i’ll get time to work on it on the weekend.

I like the switch cover color

Great work so far, I find myself wishing more and more often that I owned a lathe.

It is a nice blue but i wonder if the grey suits better for the colour scheme… The reason i use different switch boots during a build is because some have the nub on the inside cut short.

I’d love it if more folks got into building lights on lathes

I got just a little more progress after work today

That is going to look fantastic! I would love to build lights on a lathe, used 2 for rifle work and mould making for about 15 years but lost access and owner died and have not use one since. He also had an awesome Bridgeport knee mill that I learned to use. I do not have a place to set either up and really can’t justify the cost of a building, lathe, mill and tools now.

Same - I have a few different sizes of a similar color that’s also GITD that I swap into most of my lights.

Yeh aside from the cost, lathes (and associated machinery) require a bit of space.

Being sunday i got a bit done today…

Oh this one is going to be neat! That looks really sharp paired with brass.

I’ve had other things sucking up my attention so progress on this has been super slow. I made a pill, of sorts.

The head opened up and threaded

The led star will sit on that shelf , optic and bezel over top.

Very elegant and beautiful. Wish I had your skills and workshop…

Another masterpiece PinkPanda!

Looks amazing!

Cheers guys

I wasn’t happy with the body tube colour so i sanded it back and did it again. All up i did the head twice and the body three times. Little bit irritating but i like the results now.

I’m thinking of making a retaining ring for the lens. I made an error during machining and couldn’t make it work with an o-ring on the glass. The head/bezel is what clamps the led star to the pill so any minor change in the height of the leds , or star , or optic , or glass lens might affect how well the whole assembly gets clamped.
