E-Mail notification

hi

any chance to improve the E-Mail notification? An average E-Mail notification of budgetlightforum looks like this:

SPAMBOT wrote a new comment about 'Pictures are killing my laptop':

"[ quote=Don][ quote=SPAMBOT]Is 8GB ram overkill for a laptop? (I want to minimize or eliminate disk swapping. I do some memory heavy stuff and the current 3GB seems to be a tidbit too little) [/quote] &nb..."

An average E-Mail notification of Candlepowerforum looks like this:

Dear xxx,

erni0066 has just replied to a thread you have subscribed to entitled - SPY 007 Sales thread #5 - in the Cool Fall forum of CandlePowerForums.

This thread is located at:
http//www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?t=305041&goto=newpost

Here is the message that has just been posted:

There may also be other replies, but you will not receive any more notifications until you visit the forum again.

All the best,
CandlePowerForums

Is there any possibility to convert the E-Mail notification to the cpf styl (without [ quote=Don][ quote=SPAMBOT] and lager Quote) + behavior ("There may also be other replies, but you will not receive any more notifications until you visit the forum again.")?

Second issue is that there are no navigation buttuns on the top of the page. I always have to scoll all the way down. It looks like this: http://img51.imageshack.us/img51/8213/39428499.jpg This is my favorit style: http://img716.imageshack.us/img716/7299/98097178.jpg So that I'm able to go to page XX directly from the top of the page.

cheers

Most of that is vBulletin stuff. Take a look at their pricelist.

I don't think so ... Take a look at this: http://www.mybb.com/ As far as I know you don't have to pay anything + has all the features

But Mr. Admin chose Drupal for this one and spends a lot of time keeping it going. Change to it would involve a lot of work. I couldn't do it. Changing the back-end is not a trivial decision, nor is the implementation even remotely trivial.

I have to maintain an incredibly expensive dental practice management setup not unlike this. Any and all change requests are met with "no". It works the way it is, unless you can make a very good case for changing it (Which is going to cost in the thousands), it isn't happening. And I get paid to do this.

Mr Admin is running this site out of his own pockets, and there are only so many hours in a day/week/month/year. If you can find a better Drupal module that will do what you want, recommend it to Mr. Admin.

I have nothing to do with the running of the site.

Changing the back end is almost certainly not an option. Changing modules may be possible but like i said, it isn't my site.

Drupal is open source, you could always improve the email notification subroutine yourself if it annoys you that much.

I understand things are limited by the software in pace for now, but the one thing I can see improving the email notification is to choose between weekly/daily/message frequency. Often, I want to track a thread, but I don't want an email on every message. I'd prefer a nightly or weekly notification of new messages, so I can read them in a batch. For now, they can be filtered into another email folder, though.

I do agree that getting the full posted message into the email would be nice, for cases where you can get email, but can't as easily read the full web site (email only phone, etc.).

Nothing in this world is perfect, especially if its free. I for one am very pleased that Mr. Admin puts so much personal time and effort into giving us all a great place to discuss our hobby, and without the crass dictatorial attitudes that the scum sucking admins (fecal material masquerading as human beings) at the other place continually display (I've never seen such rude admin behavior on any forum anywhere). Again, thank you Mr. Admin!
For now, I simply highlight the range of repeated email notifications and delete all but the last. Then I brows only the new posts for each thread that I'm subscribed to... takes all of 10 seconds.

I cancelled my email notifications because I get too much email as it is but since I check BLF religiously, I don't need to get notified. Come to think of it, I think I check BLF more than anything else....even my email. Undecided

Oh, i have to do that myself for the exact same resons :)

BLF is getting bigger day by day. I would guess it is time to attach a few sponsors to cut the costs of maintaining this site. Obviously, the sponsors should not interfere with the true spirit of BLF. Otherwise we are getting in CPF territory which is strongly unwanted.

BLF can go public and we all can buy shares. I definitely would. Money mouth
