TrustFire TR-J12 5*CREE XML T6 from DX MF and KD

I've read his reviews on both, but hadn't yet seen it noted on the J12 (he was the one that mentioned it on the 3T6).

Anyone know what size the o ring is for the J12?

Does 30mm sound right?

Yes the TR-J12 and the TR-3T6 will run on 1 cell, but it will be in Dim mode. Dim mode is where the light warns you the batteries are flat and to change them, it does this by dimming (dropping light out put) and or locking modes, it is like a low voltage warning. In Dim mode the TR-3T6 on one cell will try and draw 6 amps and the TR-J12 will try and draw up to 14 amps. IMO its not recommended to run the lights in dim mode for to long and at such high current draw with the torch out of regulation its most likely where then driver's will fail.

much appreciated benckie.

who boy, that's a lot of amps, even spread out over 4 AA's... guess no matter which one i get, I should stick to the 18650s :)

My J12 from DX just got shipped out. Hopefully I receive it soon. I cant wait. Someone mentioned that there were fakes out there. Oh man, i feel like im gonna get a fake. What meter is good to get for measuring the voltage and lux? any suggestions? thanks. ^_^

Another contender 5 x T6 $69.99 shipped

TrustFire TR-J16 Cree XM-L T6 5-LED 4500-Lumen 5-Mode Memory Flashlight - Titanium Finish (2/3*18650)

Hi guys, it’s been a steep learning curve since I’ve joined this forum.

I can buy this beast at a store in Saigon (Vietnam) and considering using this as a monster bike light.

Am I right in assuming if I use the 2 x 26650 trustfire batteries in series (4300mAh) at 7.5A per hour on high I would get just over an hours worth of service?

Sounds decent if that’s the case, especially when it can be used in medium for longer runtimes.

Your math is wrong but you would average 1 hour on 2 x 26650 and 2 hours on 3 x 26650 on high, but medium or low mode should be more then enough light and run time would be much higher.

I haven’t done the math myself, but how does 50% more Watt-Hours translate into 100% more runtime?

Thanks Benckie for the confirmation. With my limited understanding I was thinking 7.5A = 7500mAh compared to 8600mAh capacity(2x26650 batteries at 4300mAh) should therefore give over an hours usage, although I realise there are probably other variables that I haven’t quite yet grasped. I’ll probably buy this flashlight next week, pretty excited.

If we assume roughly 7.5 Amps to the emitters, and roughly 3.1 Volts Vf for XM-L’s, that works out to 7.5 Amps * 3.1 Volts = 23.25 Watts.

Making another assumption, we’ll call the driver 85% efficient. That’s reasonable.

23.25 / .85 = 27.35 Watts input is what will give us our 23.25 watts to the emitters.

The average voltage through a Li-Ion discharge is about 3.3 Volts, so we’ll use that to avoid calculus. Under load, its more like 3.9 at the beginning and 2.8 at the end, but we can avoid nasty math by averaging it to 3.3.
3.3 Volts * 4300mAh (optomistic) = 14.19 WattHours per cell.

This translates into roughly:
.518 Hours if run on one cell
1.04 Hours if run on two cells
1.56 Hours if run on three cells

There’s a lot of guess work here, but they’re reasonably educated guesses making them theories

I would expect those numbers to be fairly close to real-world. The biggest question-mark in those numbers is the real capacity of a 26650,

Just ordered one ……

Cheers! That’s handy to know, I’ll keep a reference.

There’s a good review on the Trustfire 26650 5000mAh batteries:

4300mAh sounds good, 5000 being a typical exaggeration.

Ordered one last night too from that retailer. Delt with Emmy and she was great. Promised me additional packaging to keep the flashlight safe during shipping and said it’ll be fully tested prior to being boxed. What great service and you can’t beat the price.

I have one that I ordered from Manafont that I really like. Is the one from Aliexpress of the same quality? I like it enough to get another one at their prices.

I can only hope so, but I won’t know until it arrives. I’ll be sure to post about it once I get it.

anyone done a throw test for this one ? it looks almost par with my skyray king for throw both light up shed 150 meters away very well.

a good mixture between throw and flood

I tested the TR-J12, using 4 X LR14 batteries “C” Duracell Procell (primary, 9000mAh) and it works very well. without modification to the body (but with the extension tube).
