Grizzly's Convoy M21D GT-FC40 Review – So Close To Perfect

Convoy M21D GT-FC40 Review – So Close To Perfect

Thanks for the fantastic and detailed review.
All the measurements are nice to see, but I really like the part that you show Duv becomes more negative as output drops. This means more magenta tint at lower output? I did not expect that.

I’m glad you appreciate the DUV measurements! It trending higher at brighter at higher levels and vice versa really surprised me too.

Thanks for the review. Seems that Convoy’s 40% mode with the side switch drivers is consistently less than 40% of max output - in this case 34. It’s only 29 on my M3-C XHP70.2.

Very good review. Love the DUV measurement and very useful graphs. I have the GTFC 1900K version and the thing can over heat if you leave it tail standing for too long. It gets so hot, the button won’t turn off. You have to wear a glove to untwist it. Otherwise, great light.

Thanks for the great review grizz…

Wondering if the latest shipment comes with Green or Purple lens and how much the 2 lens can affect the DUV…

Mine came with the older red/purple AR coating. I’m not sure when Simon will be selling these with the new green AR coating, but it will lower DUV by a bit for sure.

Thank you for great review. :+1:

That nice table looks simple but must have been a lot of work. :+1:

The throw measurement is also very helpful to me. Another reviewer, Axios, measured the smallest Convoy GT-FC host, M21B, as having throw of 280 m. And now we know from your measurement M21D’s throw is 369 m.

From the sizes of the 4 flashlights, it would seem M21B’s 280 m and M21D’s 369 m are the two “bookends,” and M21F and M21E are somewhere between those 2.

Excellent review.

Thank you!

Indeed that is odd. I would expect 40% power to be closer to 50% of maximum lumens due to LED’s being more efficient at lower levels.

That’s concerning. I suppose my higher efficiency 4500K LED and my testing conditions were adequate to keep the temperature in check. I’ve noticed a number of Convoy lights that don’t seem to want to dip below their 35-40% mode threshold to keep temperature in check, and that’s a problem. They’ll lower to that point but then stop, and the temperature will continue to rise if there’s not enough airflow.

Glad you liked the review!

Even with the issues, this may become my default recommendation light to friends and family, along with the sofirn sp10 and sc21 pro.

Dude, awesome review! I’ve never read any of your reviews before, but this was the most precise and clear flashlight review I’ve ever seen! I’m not even in the market for a new light (unless something incredible gets released), but keep up the great work!

Thank you very much! I’m glad you liked it!

Has anyone measured the battery voltage at end of charge?

Also, has anyone measured the actual current draw from the battery on turbo?

Nice review, nice light. Not being an andruil fan, I happen to like the UI.

That’s an interesting perspective. What do you dislike about Anduril that you think this UI does better?
