What did you mod today?

Found a box with some old, but never used LiitoKala Lii-100 today. Took one and did some mods to it:

  • Adjusted the voltage divider to reduce the charging voltage to 4.20 V. One hour after charging the battery voltage is around 4.16 V, so only beneficial for the battery life.
  • Added a voltmeter to get more precise voltage reading instead of the four coarse LEDs. It can be switched on and off to maintain compatibility with NiMH.

The LiitoKala Lii-100 is a very nice charger, supports Li-ion and NiMH, has a powerbank function and now even shows the voltage with two decimal places (checked the accuracy, it’s ±0.005 V). Could be slightly longer to support 21700.

Looks sharp and that’s a neat mod! Nice work!

I wanted to put this led into Astrolux st01…but no idea about the driver.Anyone knows which driver is used here?

Turned my Convoy T3 into a triple using the FWAA optic and mcpcb and a homemade spacer made out of copper washers.

Pictured next to my Manker E05Ti that i also turned into a triple.

That’s probably the thickest MCPCB I’ve ever seen!

I actually used this one

cheaper and simpler, I personally dislike complicated UIs and like the set brightness modes.
Although I might try out guppydrv on my next driver, looks like a “bigger” Biscotti

Glad you pointed out that simpler driver. I had supposed Richard had re-arranged his offerings* and didn’t look down the list.

Yes, better suited for that purpose (power driver). That Lucidrv is expensive and I didn’t understand his 23rd & 24th steps “more” / “even more”. Now on second look, seems he’s using the 8 x AMCs for the first 22 steps; the FET for higher outputs.

As a post scriptum to my remark of slugginess to his site, I see it’s HTTPS now. Wasn’t then – perhaps site maintenance?

*A while back he made some changes in the listings and better structured, with a common reference to the firmwares.

I finally got around to modding a Zebralight SC700d with dedomed XHP70.3. Full write-up with comparison beam shots over on Reddit.

Does the 70.3 improve significally over the 70.2 ?

Thanks Bob, a picture can say more than thousand words!

Wait what? A XHP70.3 in 3500K and high CRI? How’s the tint shift?

Finally worked on some things from my todo list. Replaced the driver in a Sofirn LT1 with the power bank supporting driver. Used to have this as nightlight, but that task has been taken over by a Fireflies PL09MU. It can go much lower brightness and made the LT1 useless for that purpose. So that’s now the emergency light and phone charger for when the power goes out.

Also removed a bunch of LH351Ds from a few Sofirn pro lights (SC21 and SP10). 519As are on the way and will be put in there. So now hosts are cleaned up and ready. Only reflow 519As and re-assambly left once emitters arrive.

Had a SC31 pro lying around that got a SFT40 now. Originally intended for other purposes, but due to too high current choices were limited. The original SST40 was actually not too bad, so that one went into a Astrolux FT03 that originally had a XHP50.2 (that was emitting blue light after a failed slicing attempt). Unfortunately the result was still ugly (it’s the reflector, not the emitter!), so that one can go back into the spare parts bin.

Edit:
A quick test outside with the SC31 pro and SFT40 revealed a really distracting bright ring on the outside of the spill. Not a good combo with stock reflector.

Had a series of Amutorches that also had a ring. Changed the lens to AR and it cleared up.

Mind you, other things can make such.

Hadn’t thought about that… it’s late at night here :person_facepalming:

Without lens the ring disappears. Most extreme lens effect I’ve ever seen…

Edit:
Tried to use an AR lens from a Convoy S2+, but it doesn’t fit. It’s ever so slightly wider and gets stuck in the SC31’s bezel halfway. To be continued.

This is my third mod of my edc D4v1. This time I added aux leds.

I built KR4 using XHP35.2’s.

6500K D2 1A 80cris and 3000 K 30G B2 90cris.
I also modified the driver for higher output. 3.1A in this case.

Host has 4,5mm deep driver cavity so inductor fits nicely. It’s milled deeper after anodizing as you can see the border of old cavity.

And all assembled. 3000K’s seem to have smaller light emitting surface.

Beam quality is nice. Beam profile is similar to XP-L hi. Still I might switch 3000K C4 binned 80cri ones in place of these 90cri leds because now 6500K leds overpower them in higher output levels causing CCT to became drastically colder.

That’s all for today.

Completed my first reflow today. 3 Cree XP-E2 528nm Green on a Noctigon 20mm 3xp mcpcb. I tested it with my multimeter and was thrilled that they all lit up. This will be going into a green Convoy S2+.
