Sofirn SP10 Pro (AA/14500/Andúril 2) - now available!

Can I put the driver into a SP10B? The driver or switch on mine died like many, would I also need another part?

totally agree, AA with Anduril is the defining feature of this light and the reason I’m getting a bunch of them.

I’ve carried mine extensively since it’s arrival. Very happy. I prefer infinitely variable lights.
Two of my variable favorites. Time will tell if the Sofirn is as durable as the TH20.

My problem is I’m a flashaholic and I like lumens.

I have no use for AA support except as a last-resort backup in case the power fails and I run out of charged li-ion cells.

Since I pretty much only run my lights on li-ion, I find the SP10 Pro’s output to be a bit underwhelming. It’s ok with an SST-20 inside, but converted into a triple the output is too low.

I suppose the SP10 Pro would make a good gift light to muggles without li-ion chargers. Except the unmodified switch button protrudes a bit much causing accidental activations.

> I suppose the SP10 Pro would make a good gift light to muggles without li-ion chargers

yes
I ordered an SP10 Pro that I plan to gift to a neighbor, for their daughter. They like to go camping. The SP10 Pro spares me from having to ask about, or explain, Eneloop and LiIon… until, or unless, they are interested. All battery options are open. A true Multi Fuel light.

For myself I just bought another FWAA, because I dont like side switches at all… Im FlashoLowLightHolic, so the first thing I will do is castrate the FWAA so it has a ceiling of 400 lumens or less.

I make it a habit to run my lights at sustainable outputs… If the light steps down, I lower the ceiling. I do NOT raise the thermal limit

different strokes…

So, the TG06 smooth reflector is just a little to fat… bummer.

Why no 4000k option on Sofirns site? I dont want another green 5000k…

Is the 4000K Samsung less green? Mine seems to be better than all I had. Still green, but at that cct nearly bearable.

A different LED would be nice tho. But as Sofirn cannot source Nichias, what’s left?

I may have missed this, but why was it decided to omit the switch led, like on the sc21pro?

The switch LED is part of the Built in Charger on the SC21 mini and Pro.

The reason not to add the charger to the SP10, was in order not to make the light longer and to be able to use the existing SP10 V3 Host that was already designed and built.

There was no charger on the SP10 V3 Host, so none was added when the driver was upgraded to Anduril.

Also, since the SP10 Pro can run on Non Rechargeable AA batteries, it would be bad if someone tried to charge a Duracell AA disposable.

in contrast
the SC21 Mini was already designed and built with the charger. When the SC21 driver was upgraded to Anduril, the charging circuit was retained, and the design of the host did not need to be changed.

If built in charging, which includes the charging indicator button, is a top priority, go for the SC21 Pro.

If AA compatibility is a top priority, go for the SP10 Pro, and be glad there is no added parasitic drain from button lights.

Maybe power consumption? Not sure how much the regulator for the ATtiny is able to provide. Also the SP10 never had a switch LED and it might increase the price to change this.

Wondered about this (with sadness) but looking at it, I think it may simply be a size issue. The typical switches on boards with leds are larger, so perhaps there is nothing available that would fit in this host without altering the dimensions, or maybe Sammy’s correct that power consumption would be an issue, especially if the way this switch is situated on the daughter board they had to use more current/brighter leds to reach the switch cover effectively unless a pipe could be implemented. If they could add a lighted switch by beefing up that portion of the head another mm or two that wouldn’t bother me. I can appreciate price points but would gladly pay a small premium to get the features we want when it may be more difficult for them to do.

Does sofirn sp10 pro have the 5+3 mode like in sp10 ver 3?
I want double click to turbo and trible click to strobe :D. Does sp10 pro have those feature?

I have not used an SP10 V3, and do not know what 5+3 means

with the Anduril UI in the SP10 Pro, there is no triple clic to strobe. To get Strobe you would use 3H from off, that is clic, clic, clic-hold, not clic, clic, clic. And you cannot access strobe from ON, only from OFF

Yes Anduril can be set up to go to Turbo with 2 clics, both from Off and from ON. Anduril lets you choose the Ceiling level, so you can control how bright the double clic mode is.

And yes, Anduril can be set up to have 5 stepped modes if you like steps. Or it can ramp smoothly up and down, without steps.

Buy the SP10 Pro IF you want Anduril. Stay with your SP10 V3, if you dont care about learning Anduril.

Anduril is a GREAT UI, I highly recommend it. You will need to learn some new commands, and you will need to read the manual when you want to make programming changes. It is very feature rich, but also simple to use when it is programmed the way you like it.

1 Thank

Or, more briefly:

Fortunately not.

I think you guys are overthinking it; the lighted switch wouldn’t work with AA batteries installed without its own boost circuit. You could probably rig up a “dumb” one that works with only 3.7V but that defeats the purpose of this dual fuel light.

The MCU gets boosted all the time.

Thank your for details information. I will try to read the andruil UI first

I get that but standby power to the MCU and what is necessary to power a LED are pretty far apart from what I understand. Just random numbers but would you accept 1-2 month on AA with switch LED vs 2 years standby on AA with no switch LED?

Received a new Red SP10 Pro w battery.

the light works great on both Eneloop and LiIon :+1:

the firmware has been updated
version check shows: 202204180631

there is now a blink at top of ramp (there was no blink in the first run)
I have not seen the dim flash bug from the prior version
Hybrid 10 minute, Manual memory is now set to 20 lumens, prior version was 8 lumens.

The Longer thinner SP10 Pro w 14500 weighs the same as the shorter wider SC21 Pro w 16340.

An AA Eneloop weighs 6 grams more than the 14500. SC21 Pro has tailmagnet, lighted switch button, built in charging, and uses Anduril 1. SP10 Pro uses Anduril 2.

The lowest mode on SP10 Pro is 0.01 lumens
The lowest mode on SC21 Pro is 0.1 lumens
