The There Are No Stupid Questions Thread

Now that the dust has settled a little, just how good is the Nichia 519a emitter? Do they match the output of the LH351D emitters while having better R9 and tint?

Is it harmful to ceiling bounce UV light without safety glasses? Do I have to watch out for mirrors in the room? I will be using the Wurkkos WK30 365nm.

The prescription is to not have the light shine directly into the eye(s) or on the skin.
It’s not a laser. Any reflected UV or indirect exposure is relatively safe – not prolonged though.

Is Simon’s 12- and 13-group biscotti-like firmware open source?

If so, where is the source repo?

No. No idea who he uses to make and program all his drivers now but doubtful they’d give up their work freely. You could always message Simon and ask if sharing it is possible.

Referenced by icpart from Nichia 519a thread (post #11) which is actually tested by bob_mcbob on Reddit (link)

Awesome! Thanks for this. The output of these two emitters is not as similar as I had hoped. Looks like the LH351D was a cooler bin which might have exaggerated the difference but overall I guess the LH351D still wins for output.

And the CRI of the chosen LH351D is terrible. That comparison is simply highlighting something that I think just about everybody here already knows: There’s a price to be paid (in lumens) for high CRI. If you don’t care about CRI and tint, then the 519A isn’t very interesting at all.

Oh I didn’t clock that it was a low CRI version of the LH351D. All the LH351D lights I have are high CRI and I didn’t think to check.

The nice R9 comes not without cost.

Thanks, thefreeman.

Can normal UV glue be used to waterproof PCBs or are there specialty products for that?

Mostly the dedicated compounds are some sort of epoxy.
Amazon is full of them.
The thing to look out for is thermal transfer and conductivity.
If it blocks too much heat something could cook. And, naturally, it should not conduct (my grasp of the obvious is overwhelming).
Don’t know the properties of UV glue.
All the Best,
Jeff

Does anyone have experience with the Luminus SST-20-B 445nm Blue?

It’s from Kaidomain.

Hi. I have the S2+ W1 Red and W1 Blue. Can I take the MCPCB out and swap it into a FC11?

d! I’m such a noob to this scene but I’m down for product knowledge in an entertaining way. I still don’t even know what a “throw” is lol

I like to think about what I want when making any purchase and I’m always scouring for real reviews so I can actually see what it looks like and how it worked. We sell on Amazon eBay and other channels so incentivizing a review (good or bad ) somehow ? But I’d love to hear from y’all … what a company could do (besides giveaway product to everyone haha) to really genuinely earn trust and business? Who’s doing it right? Who’s doing it wrong ? What could be done better?

AND… as I learn and ask questions from this community- what can be offered to make it worth your time and opinion?

Finally how do I figure out who the customers are who use these flashlights? Basically I’d love to know …what do YOU use these products for? Besides everyday as needed use Camping ? Work? Biker? Hunting? Tactical? Police or military work?

Any recommendations help guys! I’ve been unemployed since April 2021 due to covid layoff and I feel that the owner of Andrew and Amanda is a genuine business owner trying to give me a chance. I’d love to get insight on the customer wants and needs to mutually benefit us all. Aka anyone who has time to respond could help me in keeping me job lol …no pressure

Let’s talk chargers for a second, pretty please!
I’m due for a new one, my Xtar VC4 is dying a slow and terrible death.

Are there any AC powered 8 bay lithium ion / NiMH chargers available? I’m sure there is, but are there any good quality ones out there people recommend based on use?
I don’t need all the bells and whistles, just the basics.

Something like an 8 bay Xtar X4 would be perfect

Gyrfalcon All-88

I don’t have it but it’s often recommended on a local forum and people are happy with it.

Hi, need a little help. First time Anduril 2 user here.

I got a SC31 Pro using Anduril 2, and how do I go to strobe modes?

While OFF, I go click, click, press n hold ……then what? Do I let go after a second? Do I wait for a flash or something before letting go? Do I let got a fraction of a second?

It’s supposed to be 3H then 2C, right? By the time I get to 2C I just end up in ‘Turbo’, I believe.

I’m in advanced UI coz I can toggle between smooth and stepped after ON and 3 clicks.

Thanks!

If your ceiling is whitewashed there would be no danger. If you’re wearing glasses, chances are they’re made from polycarbonate. That absorbs most of the UV radiation.
Beware of UV light that is reflected by shiny surfaces like windows, mirrors, or bathroom tiles. Think of all the tin-foil contraptions that are sold to sun lovers

The more recent version of Anduril II allows for mode switching with 3C from on in Simple UI, so it’s not a tell. Do 3C from off for battery check. If the voltage flash only runs one cycle, you’re still in Simple UI. 10H will take you to Advanced UI, and then 3H from off gets you into blinky modes, 2C to advance through the options.
